JOB DUTIES : This position is regional and is located in the In-Service Education department of the Hawai’i Health Systems Corporation (HHSC) Kaua’i Region, a public benefit corporation of the State of Hawai’i. The HHSC Kaua’i Region encompasses Kaua’i Veterans Memorial Hospital (KVMH) and Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital (SMMH), both designated as critical care access hospitals (CAH), as well as the Kaua’i Region Clinics and its affiliated entities.

The In-Service Education department plays a vital role in enhancing the professional development and competency of healthcare staff through structured training programs and educational initiatives. This department is responsible for assessing the educational needs of employees, designing and implementing relevant training sessions, and providing ongoing support to ensure that staff members are equipped with the latest knowledge and skills necessary for high-quality patient care.

The department also facilitates orientation for new hires, promotes continuing education opportunities, and ensures compliance with regulatory standards and accreditation requirements. By fostering a culture of lifelong learning, the In-Service Education department contributes to improved clinical outcomes, patient safety, and overall organizational effectiveness.

The Training & Development Coordinator III (Regional Provider EHR Education Specialist) independently performs training and staff development programs for healthcare personnel; coordinates education programs; conducts surveys; and executes other related duties as required. This role supports provider onboarding, EHR setup, workflow configuration, and training across the region. It ensures that physicians, advanced practice providers (APP), and other privileged practitioners are fully prepared to use the EHR safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulatory standards.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, provider profile setup, security role configuration, workflow optimization, and individualized training. This position primarily operates at KVMH but requires travel between various facilities within the region as needed and may necessitate extended hours, including weekends and holidays, to fulfill operational requirements.

This position reports to the Registered Professional Nurse (RPN) V (Regional In-Service Education Nurse Manager), position number 20862, or their designee.

THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS ARE: Applicants must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated; the required education and experiences may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experiences are based on a 40-hour work week.

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university in Business Administration, Health Care Administration, Human Resources, Communications, Education, or a related field. Relevant substitutions may be considered.

EXPERIENCE:

  • One and one-half (1½) years of progressively responsible professional work experience in organizing training, education, instructional design, and/or project management. Such experience demonstrates the ability to conduct training, coordinate training activities, develop training materials, and/or plan and execute projects.
  • Previous experience in IT, healthcare IT, EHR build, or provider training roles; previous experience in staff education or clinical orientation is preferred.

  • Licensure: A current State of Hawai’i type #3 motor vehicle operator’s license is preferred.
