Position Overview
This is the entry trainee level in the Biosecurity Inspector series. The role is designed to provide a career‑oriented introduction to the background, philosophy, concepts, scope, and interrelationships of the State’s plant and non‑domestic animal quarantine and pest control programs. On‑job training assignments provide practical understanding and initial introduction to the organization, programs, policies, and objectives of the agency and furnish preliminary experience in the application of principles, procedures, work processes, techniques, and scientific reference material to actual situations.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
$4,243 per month (SR‑16, Step
D).
Applicants must be willing and able to work rotating shifts, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
ResponsibilitiesEntry trainee level Biosecurity Inspector. Performs additional related duties as assigned.
Qualifications- Legal Authorization to work in the United States as a citizen, national, permanent resident alien, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.
- Education:
Graduation from an accredited four‑year college or university with a bachelor's degree in one of the following areas:- Agricultural, Landscape, or Integrated Pest Management;
Entomology;
Horticulture;
Nematology;
Plant and Environmental Protection Science;
Plant Pathology;
Tropical Agriculture and the Environment; or Tropical Plant and Soil Science. - Biological or Agricultural Science – the education must have included coursework described in (A) and (B).
- A. One (1) course in entomology, nematology, pest management, plant and environmental protection science, plant pathology, tropical agriculture and the environment, virology, or related courses.
- B. One (1) course in agroecology, agronomy, botany, horticulture, plant physiology, tropical plant and soil science, weed science, or related courses.
- Agricultural, Landscape, or Integrated Pest Management;
- Ability to write clear and comprehensive reports and other documents; read and interpret complex written material; perform basic arithmetical computations; solve complex problems logically and systematically.
- Valid driver’s license at the time of appointment.
- Must be able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted, with or without reasonable accommodation.
