Provost/Dean of Faculty via Dean of Undergraduate Studies, and the Executive Vice PresidentPURPOSE OF THE JOBJudson College maintains a faculty of God-called members who hold appropriate credentials from accredited institutions and who are qualified by personal and professional experience to offer academic leadership and achieve excellence in spiritual and intellectual keeping with the mission of the school, faculty members seek to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ by equipping students to serve the Church and fulfill the Great Commission.
Faculty members teach within the parameters of the institution’s confessional statements and exercise their academic freedom in the spirit of those documents, always understanding that “All truth is God’s Truth” (SACS 3.7.4, ATS 5.11 and 5.2.1, and Faculty Handbook, page 35 and Appendix I).The instructional staff of Judson College consists of four categories: elected faculty, appointed full-time faculty, appointed part-time faculty, and adjunctive faculty.
All members of the faculty are Southern Baptists. Each faculty member must agree to teach in agreement with, and not contrary to, the seminary’s Articles of Faith (Abstract of Principles, Baptist Faith and Message 2000) and further teach in agreement with, and not contrary to, the seminary’s Affirmed Statements (The Danvers Statement on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood, and The Chicago Statement on Biblical Inerrancy, and One Faith, One Trust, One Sacred Task.)ESSENTIAL
FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Adjunct Faculty members are primarily responsible for developing and teaching the classes that constitute the various degree programs and certificates (ATS 5.2, Faculty Handbook). This responsibility includes preparation for classes and class management (e.g. syllabus, timely grading, etc.; Faculty Handbook).Adjunct Faculty may be asked to help create or revise curriculum related to their discipline.
Adjunct Faculty may be asked to teach courses in a variety of delivery modes (e.g. residential, online, hybrid, etc.) as the institution has need.
This particular position includes teaching sections of COM
1100 Communication, which is required of all Judson College students, as well as upper-level courses required for the BA in Communication degree.
OTHER DUTIES & REPONSIBILITIES (Responsibilities/important duties performed occasionally or in addition to the essential duties of the position.)Adjunct faculty members engage in appropriate research related to their academic specialties, thus remaining current and contributing to research in their fields of specialty (Faculty Handbook and ATS 5.4).Adjunct faculty members remain up to date in instructional technologies and use those technologies in their classes when appropriate.
Adjunct faculty members participate actively in ministry in a church that is in friendly cooperation with the Southern Baptist Convention.
Adjunct faculty members support seminary functions by their attendance and their participation in the programs as they are able.
Adjunct faculty members belong to appropriate professional societies and participate in those societies’ professional meetings—contributing papers when appropriate.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND DEVELOPMENTAdjunct faculty members have appropriate academic credentials; they must possess or be in the process of pursuing an advanced research degree (Ph.D., Th.D., Ed.D., or equivalent).Adjunct faculty members have the appropriate teaching abilities for their instructional responsibility. They work to improve their instructional abilities steadily over the course of their career.
Adjunct faculty members are proactive in producing lecture notes appropriate to the courses they are teaching. They regularly revise and enhance those notes to reflect the faculty member’s continued scholarly development.
Although some faculty members will not focus on research and writing during the course of their career, Adjunct faculty members are nevertheless encouraged to write. That writing might come in the form of book reviews, essays, articles, books, church resources, or…
