Hospitality Team Members serve as neighborhood-based connectors who support Graduate Life’s mission by cultivating relational community among local graduate students. Through events, intentional relationship-building, and communication, team members help foster welcoming, mission-minded neighborhoods.
Core ResponsibilitiesEach Hospitality Team Member is responsible for coordinating three (3) neighborhood-wide events per semester within their assigned neighborhood.
- Planning and preparing for each event
- Coordinating logistics (location, supplies, setup, cleanup, etc.)
- Recruiting and coordinating volunteers to assist with planning, preparation, or execution
- Hosting events in a way that is welcoming, relational, and aligned with Graduate Life’s mission
Events may vary in size and format (e.g., cookouts, social gatherings, outreach-oriented activities).
To support neighborhood engagement, Hospitality Team Members are responsible for clear and consistent communication, including:
- Maintaining regular communication with their neighborhood through the neighborhood Group Me chat
- Promoting events and opportunities via word of mouth and physical flyers
- Ensuring neighborhood residents are aware of upcoming events, activities, and opportunities
- Hospitality Team Members are expected to cultivate a new community connection each month within their neighborhood.
- A community connection is defined as: A substantive, intentional conversation with a neighborhood resident for the purpose of building a new relationship, deepening an existing relationship, or providing care, spiritual formation, or discipleship.
- These connections may occur organically but should be pursued intentionally and prayerfully.
Hospitality Team Members are expected to:
- Meet periodically with the Community Life Assistant for planning, check-ins, and coordination
- Maintain clear, proactive communication regarding events, challenges, and needs
- Coordinate volunteer involvement
Each Hospitality Team Member will submit a monthly report that includes:
- An update on event planning and execution
- A summary of community connections made that month
- Reflections on neighborhood engagement, momentum, and challenges
- The role averages approximately 2 hours per week over the course of the semester.
- Time commitment may fluctuate week-to-week depending on event timing and planning needs.
- Hospitality Team Members are responsible for managing their time to meet expectations across the semester.
- Maintain reliable communication with the Community Life Assistant
- Fulfill responsibilities independently and with initiative
- Represent Graduate Life with integrity, hospitality, and mission-mindedness
- Serve residents with care, respect, and a Gospel-oriented posture
Required Qualifications
- Supports the mission, values, and community standards of SEBTS.
- Strong interpersonal and relational skills with the ability to initiate and cultivate meaningful relationships with residents from diverse backgrounds.
- Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work independently with limited supervision.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to coordinate and lead events, including planning, logistics, volunteer coordination, and follow-through.
- Dependable in meeting deadlines.
- Previous experience planning events, coordinating volunteers, or leading community-building initiatives.
- Comfortable using communication platforms such as Group Me and other basic digital communication tools.
- Familiarity with the SEBTS neighborhoods and community.
