The Town of Wake Forest is seeking an Assistant Finance Director to serve as a key member of the Finance Department’s leadership team. This position leads the administration and improvement of the Town’s financial systems, workflows, and operational processes, with an emphasis on automation, efficiency, accuracy, scalability, and strong internal controls.

The Assistant Finance Director oversees and coordinates key financial operations, including accounts payable, payroll, and purchasing card activities. The position also supervises assigned staff, supports financial system implementations and upgrades, develops departmental procedures, coordinates records retention and public records responses, and works across departments to identify and implement technology-driven process improvements.

The successful candidate should have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field, along with considerable experience in public finance administration, governmental accounting, financial systems, or a related area.
  • Experience supervising, training, and supporting staff.
  • Strong knowledge of governmental accounting principles, internal controls, and municipal finance operations.
  • Experience with financial systems, ERP platforms, workflow design, process improvement, and automation.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, communication, project management, and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities, lead organizational change, and develop effective working relationships across departments.

An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered. North Carolina Local Government Finance Officer certification or other relevant professional credentials are preferred.
