Operations Manager
Sunrock Industries is seeking an experienced Supervisor of Concrete Plant Operations to support our Raleigh, NC market. This role is responsible for overseeing the daily operations, production, maintenance, safety, quality control, and personnel management of a ready‑mix concrete facility.
Position SummaryThe Supervisor of Concrete Plant Operations manages the day‑to‑day operations of a ready‑mix concrete plant and its respective staff. This role is responsible for maximizing plant productivity, maintaining quality standards, ensuring environmental and safety compliance, coordinating maintenance activities, and leading Concrete Delivery Professionals and plant personnel. Candidates must be available to work flexible schedules, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and peak‑season demands.
The successful candidate must be capable of resolving scheduled and unscheduled operational and maintenance issues in a fast‑paced production environment.
- Ensure maximum plant productivity and operational efficiency on a daily basis.
- Work closely with dispatch operations to optimize truck utilization, staffing, and delivery schedules.
- Operate and become proficient in Alkon Spectrum Batching and Command Alkon Integra Dispatch systems along with other operational software platforms.
- Perform daily, weekly, and monthly inspections of plant equipment, facilities, and jobsite operations.
- Plan, coordinate, and schedule preventive maintenance and plant repairs including plumbing, welding, electrical, and mechanical repairs.
- Troubleshoot and resolve scheduled and unscheduled maintenance issues.
- Monitor environmental compliance standards and report, correct, and recommend improvements where needed.
- Coordinate truck repairs and maintenance with fleet and equipment shop personnel.
- Maintain compliance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations through oversight of driver logs and vehicle inspection reports.
- Inspect raw materials and finished concrete product quality including slump, air content, and mix consistency.
- Assist with quality control investigations and product performance reviews.
- Coordinate with quality control personnel to ensure materials meet required specifications.
- Participate in budgeting, cost control initiatives, operational improvements, and efficiency planning.
- Prepare operational, maintenance, production, and personnel reports for management.
- Collect and analyze operational data to support business decisions and reporting requirements.
- Directly supervise Concrete Delivery Professionals and plant personnel at assigned location.
- Ensure accurate inventory and supply levels of aggregates, cement, fly ash, admixtures, fibers, dyes, and other raw materials.
- Conduct regular physical measurements of silos, aggregate stockpiles, tanks, and value‑added products.
- Mentor, train, and develop new Concrete Delivery Professionals with a strong focus on safety, housekeeping, customer service, and efficiency.
- Assist with recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, training, coaching, performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, and terminations.
- Complete professional performance reviews, counseling documentation, and business communications in a timely manner.
- Collaborate cross‑functionally with dispatch, quality control, maintenance, fleet, and operations teams.
- Assist with development of annual plant maintenance and operational plans.
- Maintain required certifications and compliance documentation.
- Associate degree from a two‑year college or technical school required;
Bachelor’s degree preferred. - Minimum of 1–3 years of supervisory or operations leadership experience in ready‑mix concrete, construction materials, manufacturing, aggregate production, or industrial operations required.
- Equivalent combinations of education, technical training, and industry experience may be considered.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting experience preferred.
- Experience managing production teams, schedules, and operational performance metrics strongly preferred.
- Current North Carolina Driver’s License required.
