Overview
The City of Raleigh is looking for a motivated Park Operations Specialist to carry out various responsibilities, including managing park operations and natural resources, delivering customer service, and overseeing outdoor recreation programs. This role is essential to our team and involves supervising a facility and park when full-time staff are unavailable. Forest Ridge spans roughly 600 acres of wooded parkland featuring hiking and mountain biking trails, a welcome center, picnic shelters, and a playground with restroom facilities.
Ideal candidates will be able to prioritize effectively when confronted with multiple tasks and will use risk management skills in daily operations.
- Assist with park operations and natural resource management.
- Provide customer service and information to park visitors; explain regulations and program options.
- Support recreation instructors or full-time personnel in delivering programs such as Fitness, Wellness, Hiking, Mountain Biking, and Nature Education.
- Assist with supervising a facility and park when full-time staff are unavailable as Essential Staff.
- Operate a Personal Utility Vehicle and a Park Truck for maintenance and program support.
- Prioritize tasks and apply risk management principles in daily activities.
- Minimum age of 18 years old.
- Prior experience in customer service.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to lift at least 30 pounds and walk a mile over uneven ground.
- Ability to secure and maintain a City of Raleigh Driver's Permit.
- Interest or passion for outdoor activities such as biking, wilderness skills, hiking, or team-building facilitation is welcomed.
- Capable of operating equipment and assisting with park programs as needed.
This is a 15-20 hour per week position with weekend, holiday, and some evening hours required. Schedule will vary due to park projects and programs and needs.
ADA and Other Requirements- Typical requirements include climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
- Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Working Conditions: The worker is subject to inside environmental conditions with protection from weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature changes.
