SEN Teaching Assistant

New Directions Education is currently recruiting a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to work on a full-time supply basis in schools across Wakefield. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who are passionate about supporting children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and helping them achieve their full potential in a positive and inclusive learning environment.

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and other support staff to provide tailored support to pupils with a range of additional learning needs, including autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs.

• Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with SEN.
• Assist in delivering personalised learning activities and interventions.
• Support pupils’ academic, social, and emotional development.
• Promote positive behaviour and encourage engagement in learning.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and other professionals.
• Monitor and record pupil progress where required.
• Help create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.

• Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN within a school setting is essential.
• A patient, caring, and adaptable approach to supporting learners.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents.
• Relevant qualifications in education, childcare, or SEN support are advantageous but not essential.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
• Team Teach is beneficial but not essential.
