Job Description

Doyle Early Childhood Center is seeking a talented School Adjustment Counselor to join our team. This position will support students’ academic learning by providing strategic services that identify and address social-emotional concerns and environmental factors that may interfere with the educational process. Working collaboratively with students, families, school staff, administrators, and community-based resources, the School Adjustment Counselor will implement strategies that promote positive student adjustment and support the social-emotional development of young learners.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Hold a valid Massachusetts License as a School Adjustment Counselor
  • Minimum of two years of experience in evaluation, interpretation, and counseling in individual and/or group therapy within an educational setting
  • Experience supporting young children with social-emotional needs and/or behavioral challenges preferred
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with students, families, and school teams
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive student information with professionalism

RESPONSIBILITIES Students
  • Identify and assess academic, behavioral, and social-emotional concerns through analysis of factors impacting student adjustment, including factors within the home, school, and community
  • Develop and implement measurable goals and objectives that address students’ social-emotional needs
  • Provide individual and group therapeutic counseling to students
  • Assist students in identifying, modifying, and/or changing behaviors that interfere with achievement and school adjustment
  • Support students in developing coping strategies, self-regulation skills, and positive peer interactions
Staff/School
  • Provide strategies, support, and resources to assist teachers in addressing social-emotional needs and classroom-based concerns
  • Collaborate with school staff and district personnel to implement strategies that promote student learning and engagement
  • Provide crisis intervention services and support as needed
  • Conduct classroom meetings, psycho educational social skills groups, and classroom presentations addressing identified areas of concern
  • Participate as a member of school-based teams to develop interventions that promote students’ academic, behavioral, and social-emotional success
  • Provide consultation to staff to support student participation and success within the learning environment
Family/Community
  • Serve as a liaison between families and the school to promote collaborative partnerships and encourage family participation in the educational process
  • Consult and collaborate with outside agencies and community-based providers as needed
  • Refer students and/or families to appropriate community resources
  • Act as a resource person for students, families, and staff regarding social-emotional, behavioral, and adjustment-related concerns
  • Increase the understanding of teachers, families, and community members regarding factors that impact student behavior, adjustment, and school success
Management
  • Maintain comprehensive records of student progress and services provided
  • Ensure the security and maintenance of clinical confidentiality at all times
  • Complete required documentation related to student progress monitoring and IEP goals for students with special needs
  • Fulfill special education responsibilities, including participation as a member of evaluation teams and completion of home assessments when appropriate
  • Attend Team meetings and other meetings as needed
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Building Principal

Salary: $31,651 to $59,659 Per Year
