Main Purpose of JobThe Office Services Clerk Lead provides assistance to the Office Supervisor with administrative, technical, and operational services which enable professional, managerial, and office support staff to accomplish the agency's goals in as efficient manner. This position relieves clerical staff to routine management functions relating to the daily operations within and out of the respective department. Overall, the position provides broad clerical and administrative support to the assigned location to support the Family Investment Administration (FIA) throughout the Baltimore City Department of Social Service (BCDSS) in determining eligibility for cash assistance, Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP), medical assistance (MA), Emergency Assistance to Families with Children (EAFC), and Childcare subsidies to ensure efficient and effective service delivery.
At all times, the incumbent will provide customer service to both internal and external customers that meet or exceed the standards set by the Department.
- Maintain and monitor the flow of customers for the intake process of applications. Screen and upload new applications and initiate redeterminations on date of receipt;
Run clearances using automated systems (e.g., BEACON, MMIS, SVES, SAVE, The Work#, CARES, my DHR etc.) to obtain and verify customer information in accordance with federal, state, and local policies, procedures, and guidelines. - Conducts operations ethically;
Adheres to compliance requirements;
Provides discipline and structure that influences staff awareness of and respect of operational controls. - At all times provide customer service to both internal and external customers.
- Ensures the receptionist desk has coverage daily.
- Monitor the AIR (customer waiting area) in 20/30 intervals to prevent any delays in service to the clients;
Provides backup assistance for staff requiring IT and logon work orders.
- Train staff, and oversee staff.

Education :Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience :Two years of experience performing clerical duties.
Notes- Candidates may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year up to two years of the required experience.
- Six months clerical training with three courses in subjects such as keyboarding, clerical math, word processing, spreadsheets, data base, graphics presentation, proofreading, or office etiquette may be substituted for six months of the required experience.
- Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administrative classifications or in Administrative, Clerical, or Office Services specialty codes in the Clerical Support field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.
- One year of computer experience with Google Workspace and Microsoft Office.
- Six months of experience in a Human Service capacity.
- One year of experience reviewing and updating files following policies and procedures.
