Assistant Project Manager - Federal Construction (DMV Region)

Job Description

This Assistant Project Manager role supports multiple federal construction projects in the DMV area, totaling approximately $15 million in value. You will manage the day-to-day operational aspects of federal construction work, assist with estimating and bidding, and coordinate closely with subcontractors and internal teams. This position offers the opportunity to grow with a fast-growing general contractor that is building a strong presence in the federal market and values a tight-knit, long-term team.

Responsibilities

+ Manage the day-to-day operational aspects of assigned federal construction projects in the Mid-Atlantic region.

+ Support 2-3 concurrent federal projects with a combined value of approximately $15 million.

+ Review scopes of work thoroughly to understand project requirements and constraints.

+ Engage subcontractors by coordinating site visits and providing clear bid instructions.

+ Coordinate and support subcontractor bidding activities to ensure complete and competitive proposals.

+ Assist with estimating and bidding task order contracts and IDIQs, including quantity takeoffs and pricing support.

+ Collaborate with the Project Manager to align subcontractors and suppliers with project scopes and schedules.

+ Develop and maintain project schedules, including tracking milestones and critical path activities.

+ Manage subcontractor schedules and monitor progress to ensure adherence to project timelines.

+ Support client-facing activities, including participation in meetings and communication of project updates.

+ Assist with construction field coordination, ensuring alignment between site activities and project plans.

+ Use project management and office software tools to organize documentation, reporting, and communication.

+ Contribute to maintaining high standards of organization, documentation, and communication across the project team.

Essential Skills

+ 2-5 years of experience in federal construction projects, including work with NAVFAC and GSA.

+ Demonstrated project management experience in construction, including coordination of field activities.

+ Experience in construction management, design, engineering, and estimation within a construction context.

+ Ability to provide assistant project management support to federal government construction projects in the Mid-Atlantic region.

+ Proficiency with computer applications, including MS Office and Excel.

+ Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.

+ Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams.

+ Mature, professional demeanor and the ability to represent the company effectively in client-facing situations.

+ U.S. citizenship.

Additional

Skills & Qualifications

+ Degree in Construction Management or Engineering preferred, with recognition that relevant experience can substitute for formal education.

+ Experience supporting estimating by reviewing scopes of work and aligning subcontractors.

+ Familiarity with task order contracts and IDIQ contract structures.

+ Experience working with federal agencies such as NAVFAC and GSA.

+ Ability to thrive in a fast-growing organization and contribute to building a long-term, high-performing team.

+ Interest in federal construction and in helping a growing contractor establish a strong reputation in the federal arena.
