Job Overview

Georgetown University’s Berkeley School of Nursing seeks a dedicated Academic Advisor to provide comprehensive, student-centered advising to a diverse undergraduate and graduate population. Grounded in the University’s Jesuit tradition and commitment to cura personalis (care for the whole person), the Academic Advisor supports students in achieving their academic, personal, and professional goals.

The Advisor works closely with faculty, deans, and campus partners to guide students through curriculum planning, academic policies, and challenges that may impact their success.

The Academic Advisor is responsible for fostering students’ academic and personal growth through their time in our programs. The Academic Advisor is responsible for closely interfacing with central administrative units such as the Registrar, the Joint Office of Graduate Studies, the Office of Global Education and other educational partners.

Work Interactions

Part of the scope of the Student Affairs office operates in support of students during the admission and decision-making process phase through enrollment until graduation. The advising office cultivates campus partnerships and collaborates with faculty, staff and student leaders in order to facilitate student success. Specifically, the advising team provides academic advisement in the areas of course registration, degree progression planning, and personal and professional development focusing on the following areas: study abroad, internships, graduate school admissions, career counseling, service work, and a variety of other student-centered issues.

The office serves approximately 800 students in 19 on-campus and hybrid undergraduate and graduate programs.

Requirements and Qualifications
  • Minimum requirements include at least 5-7 years in a higher education setting;
    Master’s degree in Higher Education, Counseling, or a related field with experience supervising diverse teams preferred
  • Health education experience strongly preferred. Ideal candidates possess familiarity with various data management systems, including:
    Banner, Cognos, and Sales Force CRM.
  • Must demonstrate strong organizational skills and precise attention to detail
  • Must also possess the ability to manage multiple complex tasks simultaneously and respond to ever-changing environments comprised of a diverse group of stakeholders.
  • Should have an appreciation for the value of a strong undergraduate and graduate education
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Must have an interest and ability in computer software applications
  • Must have high energy
  • Must have excellent listening, writing, and communication skills
  • Must have the ability to work independently as well as a member of a team
  • Must have sensitivity to the needs and concerns of a diverse student population.
