POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Director of School Facilities, the Energy and Environmental Specialist leads the development and implementation of Calvert County Public Schools’ Resource Management and Energy Conservation Plan, advancing district wide efforts in energy efficiency, resource conservation, and environmental sustainability. This role collaborates across Facilities, Planning and Construction, and school-based teams to integrate sustainable practices into operations and capital projects, ensuring alignment with Maryland High Performance Green Building requirements and applicable state and federal regulations.

The Specialist drives data-informed decision-making by monitoring energy usage, managing utility expenditures, and identifying cost-saving strategies, grants, and incentive opportunities. The position also supports Green School certification efforts, supports staff training, and maintains sustainability reporting and communications. This role ensures CCPS remains compliant, efficient, and forward-focused in meeting its sustainability goals.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

At the time of application, the candidate must hold or be eligible for:

Bachelor’s degree in environmental management, environmental resource management, natural resource management, sustainability, or a closely related field required.

Minimum of 4 years of experience in a related field required.

Experience supporting or coordinating sustainability initiatives aligned with the Maryland Green Schools Program, including initial certification or recertification efforts preferred.

Demonstrated management, leadership, and human relations skills.

Knowledge of local, State, and federal policies, regulations, and best practices pertaining to energy management, conservation, and sustainability as applicable to public-sector facilities. .

Ability to oversee, coordinate, and support energy conservation and sustainability efforts involving Calvert County Public Schools for students and employees.

Highly organized, with the ability to gather, organize, analyze and interpret energy and utility usage data.

Ability to communicate effectively both orally (public speaking) and in writing

Valid Driver’s License

Knowledge of basic office procedures and operation of office equipment and machines.

Collaborates with the Director of School Facilities or designee on the development of and co-author the Resource Management and Energy Conservation Plan.

Collaborate with the Departments of School Facilities and Planning and Construction to support energy management, resource conservation, and sustainability efforts across existing facilities and capital projects at Calvert County Public Schools.
