Floor Technician
Location: Tri-County
Schedule: Day and Evening availability in Charles and St. Mary's County; flexible working hours based on needs of the position.
Pay Range: $20.00/hr - $21.00/hr
Job PurposeThe Floor Technician is responsible for performing heavy cleaning duties—including floor cleaning, shampooing and steam cleaning carpets, stripping, sealing, finishing, and polishing floors—while operating and maintaining equipment according to manufacturer’s specifications. The position ensures a safe, clean, and cost‑effective working environment and involves direct client contact and support.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Maintain facility cleanliness and overall maintenance.
- Execute floor services and custodial tasks requested by Vocational Support Professionals, Team Leaders, and Contract Managers (e.g., stripping, waxing, carpet cleaning, bathroom cleaning, vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, dusting). Clean and restock offices, bathrooms, kitchens, conference and meeting rooms, and other office areas daily or per checklist.
- Work on a flexible schedule with hours based on position needs.
- Adapt to various assignments across the Tri‑County areas.
- Maintain required work records as specified by the contract site.
- Comply with training for hard floor surfaces and carpet care, including top scrubbing, stripping, and waxing.
- Operate and maintain cleaning equipment per manufacturer specifications, including floor machines and carpet machines.
- Adhere to procedures for chemical cleaner and power equipment use to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
- Follow contracting agency policies and procedures while working on contract sites.
- Report needed equipment repairs, supplies, concerns, or unusual occurrences to supervisor.
- Follow OSHA standards when disposing of materials under OSHA guidelines.
- Attend and complete all required training.
- Participate in staff meetings as required.
- Move furniture, equipment, and supplies as needed.
- Accomplish all tasks as appropriately assigned or requested.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Five (5) years of work experience in commercial cleaning or related field.
- Six‑month professional experience stripping and waxing floors.
Skills and Abilities
- Must be able to negotiate physical environment at CRC (Calvert Recreation Center).
- Demonstrated ability to follow instructions and act accordingly.
- Demonstrated ability to complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
- Ability to plan work, organize, and maintain workflow while adapting to varied tasks and priorities.
- Ability to work professionally.
- Demonstrated clear and concise communication skills, both oral and written.
- Must pass the criminal background check mandated by the State of Maryland.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle access.
- Occasional standing, walking, hand use, reaching, climbing stairs, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
- Occasional lifting or moving up to 50 pounds.
- Vision requirements: close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Reasonable accommodations can be made for individuals with disabilities.
- Generally not exposed to weather conditions while performing duties.
- Noise level is usually moderate.
