Job Overview
Shady Grove Medical Center seeks an experienced Building Engineer III for its Operations Facilities Department. The role supports the mission of extending God’s care through the ministry of physical, mental, and spiritual healing.
Responsibilities- Lead coordination of building maintenance technicians, journeymen, and outside contractors to complete repairs and projects too large for in‑house teams.
- Obtain necessary approvals from leadership and properly document all transactions.
- Provide troubleshooting and repair services on commercial and hospital‑grade equipment.
- Operate, maintain, and service core building assets (doors, HVAC, Building Automation Systems, CMMS, plumbing, steam, vessels, pumps, motors, fire protection, nurse call, and other systems).
- Perform preventative maintenance and recommend improvements for better equipment performance.
- Check and repair electrical fixtures, switches, outlets; replace light bulbs and fluorescent tubes; check plumbing fixtures; perform minor mechanical repairs; clean and lubricate moving parts.
- Maintain and use all appropriate safety equipment (glasses, gloves, face shield, coveralls) and follow infection control procedures.
- Keep a clean and safe work area and maintain written logs of shift responsibilities.
- Follow approved purchasing methods to acquire repair parts, tools, and supplies.
- Coordinate and assist master‑trade personnel on complex repair projects.
- Provide oversight of the Energy Management System (EMS) / Building Automation System (BAS) to maintain comfort and energy set points.
- Diagnose and repair Direct Expansion (DX) HVAC equipment, ice machines, Commercial Air Handling Units (AHU), and Variable Air Volume (VAV) systems.
- Research and select materials for HVAC installation, repair, and maintenance.
- Interpret as‑built blueprints and recommend system modifications for remodel projects in accordance with regulations.
- Perform additional duties as assigned, including snow removal.
- High School Diploma or equivalency.
- Five years of experience in a mechanical or general contractor, or commercial/hospital facilities environment.
- Completion of an approved and accredited Trade School or apprenticeship program.
- Preferred:
Five years of trades experience directly related to duties; seven years preferred. - Journeyman or above in plumbing, HVACR, or electrical fields.
- Certification required in four of any building systems (e.g., Medical Gas ASSE 6040, 6010, Pneumatic Tube System, ASHE Health Care Physical Environment Worker, NFPA Certified Electrical Worker; additional certifications considered case‑by‑case).
- Advanced knowledge of electrical system repairs, plumbing repairs, and mechanical equipment in commercial buildings.
- Advanced knowledge of wall repair, patching, and painting under infection control guidelines.
- Advanced knowledge of heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems.
- Valid driver’s license.
Full‑time, 40 hours per week. Typical hours are 7:00AM–3:30PM, Monday through Friday. After 60–90 days, placement on day, evening, or night shift may occur and may include scheduled weekends; holiday work follows the company holiday calendar.
Compensation and BenefitsPay range: $27.70 – $40.16 per hour.
