Responsibilities
This position provides clinical crisis management, various group, family therapy, and clinical advice and support to adolescents in a residential treatment center for emotionally disabled adolescents. It requires specific expertise in understanding the symptoms and treatments for clients with diagnoses typically seen in this population. The role is a permanent night‑shift position, including weekend coverage, that demands clinical support, crisis intervention, and therapeutic services during evening hours and weekends as scheduled.
Collaboration with a multidisciplinary treatment team—nursing/residential staff, educational staff, therapeutic recreation staff, Social Workers, Psychologists, and Psychiatrists—is essential to deliver family‑driven and youth‑guided treatment. The incumbent must also generate extensive documentation, including progress notes, assessments, and reports, required in a contemporary mental health setting.
- Education:
Determined by the Maryland State Board of Social Work Examiners under the licensing requirements for Social Workers. - Experience:
Two years of clinical social work services in a health care or treatment setting subsequent to receipt of an approved Master’s degree in Social Work from an accredited college or university. - Note:
Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher, or as a commissioned officer in Social Work classifications or Social Work specialty codes in the Social Science, Psychology, and Welfare field of work, on a year‑for‑year basis for the required experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with adolescents with emotional disabilities and court‑involved youth.
- Must be licensed as a Certified Social Worker or Certified Social Worker, Clinical by the Maryland State Board of Social Work Examiners prior to appointment. Applicants lacking a license may apply pending receipt of the required license and submit a copy to the Maryland Department of Health Testing Unit when obtained.
- Employees may be required to operate an automobile. Those assigned such duties must possess an appropriate driver’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
