The Amazon Optics team builds and manages services that are used by AWS employees to secure our physical sites, protecting AWS locations and preserving the trust of all AWS users. The services you build are used around the world to secure assets for every AWS customer.
Key Responsibilities- Own and deliver software features end-to-end across the full development lifecycle—scoping, design, coding, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
- Design solutions for new features and improvements, making effective priority tradeoffs between feature development and operational excellence.
- Participate in code reviews, providing meaningful feedback to engineers at all levels, ensuring operational issues are resolved at root cause.
- Mentor teammates, train new engineers, and collaborate with customers and stakeholders to understand business value.
- Identify opportunities to improve team software and processes, keep skills current.
On any given day, you might review pull requests, design or code a feature you own, collaborate with stakeholders to clarify requirements, make tradeoffs, troubleshoot production issues, mentor junior engineers, document system architecture, or drive technical discussions.
LocationThis job can be located in Herndon, VA or Baltimore, MD.
Qualifications- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
- Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field.
- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability, scalability) of new and existing systems.
- 3+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
The base salary range for this position is USD 143,700 to 194,400 annually, plus sign‑on payments, RSUs, and comprehensive benefits including health insurance, 401(k) matching, paid time off, and parental leave.
