Packaging Engineer | Walker, MI Salary Range: $67,000 - $106,000 depending on experience.
Key Responsibilities- Design, develop, and qualify new packaging solutions for manufactured products.
- Optimize existing packaging designs for cost reduction, performance, and sustainability.
- Conduct packaging material selection, testing, and validation to ensure product protection and integrity.
- Create and maintain detailed packaging specifications, drawings, and bills of material (BOMs).
- Collaborate with R&D, manufacturing, marketing, and supply chain teams on packaging projects.
- Troubleshoot packaging-related issues on production lines and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure all packaging designs comply with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and company guidelines.
- Manage packaging supplier relationships and evaluate new materials or technologies.
- Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related technical field.
- 3-5+ years of experience in packaging design, development, and validation within a manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., Solid Works, AutoCAD) and a strong understanding of various packaging materials (plastics, corrugated, paperboard, glass, metal).
- Demonstrated knowledge of manufacturing processes, packaging equipment, and supply chain dynamics.
- Proven ability to analyze packaging performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement solutions for cost, quality, and sustainability improvements.
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
- Experience with advanced CAD/CAE software for packaging design and simulation.
- Knowledge of sustainable packaging materials and end-of-life considerations.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
