Environmental Health & Safety Specialist | Walker, MI

Salary Range: $58,000 - $90,000 depending on experience

The Opportunity

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement EHS policies and procedures to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
• Conduct regular EHS inspections and audits to identify hazards and assess risks, recommending corrective actions.
• Investigate all EHS incidents, including near misses, injuries, and spills, determining root causes and implementing preventative measures.
• Deliver EHS training programs to employees on topics such as hazard communication, lockout/tagout, and emergency response.
• Manage hazardous waste programs, ensuring proper storage, labeling, and disposal in accordance with regulations.
• Maintain and update EHS records, permits, and documentation, preparing reports for management and regulatory agencies.
• Collaborate with manufacturing teams to integrate EHS considerations into production processes and new equipment installations.

Recommended Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Engineering, or a related scientific field.
• 3-5 years of EHS experience within a manufacturing environment.
• Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and other relevant federal, state, and local EHS regulations.
• Proven ability to conduct risk assessments, incident investigations, and implement corrective actions.
• Strong communication and training skills to effectively engage with all levels of the organization.
• Experience with EHS management systems (e.g., ISO 14001, ISO 45001).

Bonus Qualifications

• Experience with ISO 14001 and/or ISO 45001 implementation and auditing.
• Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing principles and their application to EHS.
• Proficiency in EHS software platforms (e.g., Intelex, Cority, Sphera).
• Ability to conduct engaging EHS training sessions for diverse audiences.
