The
City of Walker is looking for an organized, customer-focused Payroll & Benefits Specialist to join our Human Resources team. This is more than processing payroll—it's about helping employees navigate benefits, ensuring compliance, improving processes, and making a positive impact on the people who keep our city running every day.

As our Payroll & Benefits Specialist, you'll play a key role in ensuring employees receive accurate pay and exceptional support. Your days will include:

• Process accurate bi-weekly payroll for 200+ employees.
• Review payroll data, exception reports, and manual entries to ensure accuracy.
• Coordinate payroll adjustments related to benefits, taxes, PTO, and timekeeping.
• Assist with year-end payroll processing and W-2 preparation.

• Serve as the go-to resource for employee payroll and benefits questions.
• Administer medical, dental, vision, life, disability, retirement, HSA, and wellness programs.
• Manage benefit enrollments, employee changes, transfers, and open enrollment.
• Coordinate COBRA and FMLA administration with third-party providers.
• Audit benefit invoices and payroll deductions for accuracy.
• Maintain payroll files for retirement and benefit reporting.

• Stay current on payroll regulations, tax laws, ACA reporting, and compliance requirements.
• Prepare payroll and benefits reports.
• Maintain confidential employee records with the highest level of integrity.
• Work closely with Finance, department leaders, and external vendors to ensure seamless payroll and benefits administration.

Requirements

• Associate's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance/Accounting, or a related field (or an equivalent combination of education, experience, or certification such as CPP).
• Two to four years of payroll experience processing payroll for 200+ employees.
• Experience using HRIS, payroll, and timekeeping software.
• Knowledge of payroll tax regulations, wage garnishments, benefits administration, and employment compliance.
• Excellent communication and customer service abilities.

Preferred:

• Experience with BS&A and UKG Ready Software
• Municipal payroll or government experience
• Familiarity with GAAP, GASB, and municipal finance practices
