Skills Needed:

THE SUCCESSFUL SAFETY MANAGER WILL

  • Serve as a subject matter and technical resource, providing expertise and guidance
  • Collaborate with other Foundry and external resources including COO, HR Manager, President, Project Managers, Safety Committee reps, outside consultants, other agency representatives and employees
  • Possess and maintain a current knowledge of EHS laws and regulations—be able to interpret, explain and implement Foundry policies and procedures to meet or exceed requirements.
  • Be a skilled planner—able to accurately scope out length of difficulty of tasks and projects, set objectives and goals and delivers quality work in a timely matter
  • Be an outstanding communicator—possess excellent verbal skills as well as the ability to write formal letters, technical documents and create training presentations. Bilingual in English/Spanish a plus
  • Be able to work independently, with strong self-management and organization skills, pursuing work objectives with appropriate energy and empathy
  • Bring a creative, problem-solving approach that integrates safety with manufacturing and production needs

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree in Safety or Industrial Engineering, EHS or other related field, with at least 4 years of progressive experience in areas related to environment, health and safety OR a combination of education/experience

Previous experience should include:

  • Experience in areas related to environment, health and safety in a manufacturing or industrial environment—experience with welding, foundry or paint operations a plus
  • Experience developing and delivering effective and engaging safety training
  • Experience interfacing with regulatory agencies

WORKING CONDITIONS

This position spends a lot of time in the manufacturing environment which can be loud, dirty, dusty and/or have swings in temperatures. Must be able climb stairs and ladders. PPE required and worn daily includes ear protection, safety glasses/goggles, sturdy work boots.

WORK HOURS

Regular Foundry working hours are 7 am to 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday. Additional work time beyond these hours, depending on project load may be required. This is an onsite position. Remote work is not an option for this role.

Skills Needed:

REQUIRED/DESIRED EDUCATION SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • 2+ years of manufacturing, blasting or other related experience
  • Working knowledge of Clemco machines or other similar machines a plus
  • Prior welding experience a plus
  • Must approach work with a safety-first mindset.
  • Ability to become certified to operate Fork Truck and other Foundry equipment (Foundry will train) required. Prior experience driving mobile equipment including forktruck, manlifts, hoists or other machinery a plus.
  • Must be detail-oriented and patient. Delivering high quality work could mean being extra thorough
  • Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English to accurately follow detailed written procedures and work instructions as well as record and review data; clearly document your work, and talk with fellow workers and managers
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks concurrently
  • Actively troubleshoot and solve problems, research solutions, and ask for input when necessary
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision. Maintain focus on uptime, optimizing workflow and reducing delays in production.
  • Be reliable, with strong time-management skills
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment with frequently changing priorities
  • Comfortable with and able to learn new technology and programs including iPad, navigating on the web or through apps and reading/responding to email

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

This is a physical role, with frequent standing, walking, twisting, lifting and pushing. Must be able to work at heights, including climbing ladders and working from lifts. Must be able to kneel, bend and work in small spaces. Must have the ability to push/pull, lift and carry up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally.

Environmental conditions can be loud, dusty and/or smoky. Temperatures can swing with the weather from very cold to very hot. PPE required and worn daily—ear protection, safety glasses/goggles, face masks/shields (must be clean-shaven for fit), sturdy boots, and full-body blasting gear. Walla Walla Foundry provides all PPE except for work boots.

WORK HOURS

Regular Foundry working hours are 7 am to 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday. Often, the metal shop starts their shift at 5 am. Being available to work a 5 am start and/or a weekend shift is required. Overtime often required and paid at time and a half. In general, meal break is 30 minutes; breaks every two hours worked.

WAGE AND BENEFITS

Walla Walla Foundry benefits include a generous health/dental/vision care package (health insurance paid 100% by the Foundry for employee, 50% for dependents), 401(k) Plan with employer retirement match, Long-Term Disability Plan, paid holidays, and paid time off. Starting Wage for the Industrial Blaster position is $18-25/hour to start, depending on experience.
