Walla Walla Union-Bulletin Deputy Editor / Senior Staff Reporter

Description:

The Walla Walla Union-Bulletin, one of the best small newspapers in Washington, needs a No. 2 editor who can also provide coverage of local government and politics.

It's the best of both worlds - reporting and newsroom leadership.

A few specifics about the reporting job:

  • And, since this is a collaborative newsroom, you'll need to throw yourself into conversations and projects that involve journalists who share your same commitment to this community.
As for the editing job:
  • You're backstopping the managing editor. You'll serve as the lead editor in her absence.
  • As deputy editor, you'll develop news and feature coverage for digital audiences, make assignments and edit content.
  • You'll also take the lead on preparation and analysis of news analytics.
Requirements:
  • Three or more years as a professional editor or reporter. Experience leading reporting teams or spearheading large newsroom projects. Editing experience.
  • Strong news judgment, highly developed interpersonal skills, a background in digital journalism, a basic familiarity with digital analytics tools, and experience using social media to engage news audiences.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
