Chief Medical Officer – Eastern State Hospital

We are in search of a self‑motivated, forward‑thinking physician to fill a vital leadership role. The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) will oversee psychiatric and medical services, provide clinical leadership, and collaborate with executive and senior leadership to optimize quality of care and operational effectiveness at Eastern State Hospital (ESH), a 375‑bed inpatient psychiatric facility accredited by The Joint Commission and certified by CMS.

Responsibilities
  • Innovative Leader:
    Administer and coordinate psychiatric and medical services, provide clinical consultation, and supervise staff via meetings, rounds, and performance reviews.
  • Strategic Partner:
    Collaborate with executive leadership to achieve organizational goals, develop, implement, and evaluate clinical and professional services.
  • Strategic Direction:
    Lead the development and execution of the hospital’s strategic vision, delegating activities to medical staff and ensuring timely completion of objectives.
  • Talent Developer:
    Supervise all clinical and professional services activities, providing guidance on medical and clinical management for patient care.
  • Data‑Driven Visionary:
    Leverage technology and data to improve performance and support the state’s mental health service delivery system.
  • Clinical Practice Alignment:
    Ensure hospital clinical practices comply with internal policies and reporting systems.
  • Collaborative Executive:
    Ensure medical department goals, policies, and procedures meet certification standards and guarantee safe, high‑quality patient care.
  • Regulatory Compliance:
    Maintain compliance with state health regulations, RCW, WAC, professional standards, and DSHS/BHHA/ESH policies.
Who Should Apply
  • Professionals licensed to practice medicine and surgery in Washington, with certification in General Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and demonstrated medical executive leadership experience.
