The Girls Head Volleyball Coach will direct the volleyball program at the high school level.
Essential Functions- Implement teaching and coaching philosophies consistent with the Walla Walla School District and Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) mission statements.
- Instruct participants in individual, group and team techniques, tactics and physical training necessary for the realization of success.
- Communicate a clearly defined philosophy which emphasizes ethical competition, sportsmanship, leadership, and citizenship with students, parents, staff, and community members.
- Utilize effective coaching techniques for skill development, strategy, and interpersonal team relations.
- Develop and promote high level performance expectations for all players and coaches.
- Support and help implement the established off-season strength, conditioning and skills development program.
Reporting Relationships:
District Athletic Director, Building Principal and Human Resources.
Education and Experience
- Teaching certificate and experience is strongly preferred.
- Previous experience coaching competitive volleyball girls ages fourteen to eighteen.
- Two years as a head volleyball coach or assistant coach, or experience in coaching volleyball at the college level.
- Successful experience in teaching technical sports/volleyball skills to secondary school student athletes.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively carry out the duties of the volleyball program as established by the High School Principal, Athletic Director and policies of the Walla Walla School District.
- Verified coaching techniques in the area of scope and sequence of skill development, safety, teamwork, strategy, interpersonal relations, routine training, practice and game organization.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with students, parents, assistant coaches, administrators, staff, and community; effective public relations skills.
- Evidence of short and long-term organization and management skills.
- Evidence of being a positive role model.
- Clearly-defined philosophy for the coaching level applied for.
- Professional integrity, vigor, flexibility, enthusiasm.
- WIAA certification and compliance with WIAA and district rules and regulations.
- Must meet the age requirements of WIAA applicable to this position.
- Annually complete the WIAA general rules and volleyball rules clinics.
- Before beginning the third year of coaching, complete the WIAA Coaches School, or the NFHS Coaches Fundamentals Course, or District approved coaching course. After initial completion, coaches are required to repeat training every three (3) years.
- Possess current First Aid/CPR cards and be versed in related preventative health and training standards.
- Complete Concussion and Sudden Cardiac Arrest training as required every three (3) years through the NFHS.
- Completed Employment Application/ Background Check.
