Job OverviewWalla Walla Community College seeks an internal applicant for a full‑time, tenure‑track Commercial Truck Driving Assistant Professor. The start date is at the beginning of the Summer Quarter in July 2026.
The role focuses on providing a quality education and training for students in Commercial Truck Driving, meeting Washington State CDL license requirements and fostering student success.
Responsibilities- Develop, prepare, and teach Washington State compliant and college‑approved Commercial Truck Driving courses, including pre‑trip inspection, straight back, offset back, 90 degree back, gear usage, recovery, coupling, uncoupling, starting/stopping, turning, intersection procedures, railroad crossing procedures, road‑test procedures, and legal aspects of CDL licensing.
- Conduct lab exercises, evaluate student learning, assign grades, and consult with students as required by the instructional division.
- Maintain current curriculum, textbook orders, and grading policies.
- Advise and mentor students on entrance requirements, program options, career plans, and graduation requirements.
- Participate in faculty meetings, in‑service training, curriculum development, professional development activities, academic consulting, workshops, and service on college councils or committees.
- Comply with WWCC policy, procedures, directives, state and federal regulations, orders, statutes, and collective bargaining agreements.
- Support outreach activities to promote the CDL program and participate in commencement ceremonies as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including support for the WWCC strategic plan.
- Valid commercial driver's license and five years of experience driving with a CDL Class A license without air‑brake restriction and without automatic‑transmission restriction.
- Ten years of driving experience with no violations in the past three years.
- Master CDL Instructor certification.
- Trade‑school certified in commercial truck driving preparation.
- Demonstrated knowledge of CDC, state, and federal laws and Washington State traffic laws.
- Experience teaching at a community college in multiple modalities (in‑person, web‑enhanced, hybrid, online).
- Bilingual in English/Spanish.
The College has a negotiated faculty salary schedule; placement depends on education level and experience. Salary ranges from $87,969 to $100,287 for a standard 212‑day contract, with additional compensation for a doctorate degree. Placement does not include a potential COLA effective July 1, 2026.
