Overview

Walla Walla Community College (WWCC) seeks a Full-Time Culinary Arts Non‑Tenure Assistant Professor to begin at the start of the Fall Quarter in September 2026. The role focuses on instruction, curriculum development, student support, faculty engagement, and program administration.

Essential Functions
  • Effectively teach the adopted curriculum at a variety of skill levels and evaluate student progress toward learning objectives.
  • Create program‑learning activities that support individual student learning needs and evaluate progress.
  • Provide structured, hands‑on instruction in culinary arts, including menu planning, production, plating, and kitchen workflow.
  • Ensure recipes used in instruction and food service are standardized, costed, and aligned with Farm to Fork initiatives and budgetary goals.
  • Advise students on academic and career pathways, including mentoring in job placement and industry networking.
  • Develop and update curriculum in response to industry trends and to improve equitable student outcomes.
  • Evaluate student progress toward learning outcomes using assignments, projects, quizzes, and standardized tests.
  • Design inclusive instructional strategies in classroom, small groups, and individualized instruction.
  • Participate in industry advisory board meetings and community partnerships to strengthen program alignment and student job placement.
  • Collaborate with the Farm to Fork team to align production and instructional needs.
  • Maintain and submit student records, documentation, and program reports.
  • Maintain structured office hours.

Qualifications
  • Associate’s Degree in Culinary Arts (related credentialing may substitute at the college’s discretion).
  • Demonstrated proficiency as an Executive Chef and/or teaching Culinary Arts at the college level (minimum two years); teaching experience as a teaching assistant or adjunct may count.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience teaching at a community college.
  • Experience using technology and teaching in face‑to‑face, web‑based, hybrid, HyFlex, or online modalities.
  • Management experience in the culinary industry.
  • Experience writing program curriculum with innovative delivery strategies.
  • Experience incorporating technology in the classroom.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish.
Conditions and Employment Terms

The position is Full‑Time Non Tenure‑Track, exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act. Employment terms are negotiated with the Association for Higher Education. Candidates must provide documentation of lawful U.S. work authorization within three days of employment and official transcripts. A criminal history background check is required. WWCC is a tobacco‑free campus.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary is based on a negotiated faculty schedule, typically $74,930 – $85,422 for a standard 176‑day contract. Higher placement is possible for doctorate degrees. Benefits include medical, dental, life, long‑term disability insurance, paid sick leave, retirement, optional deferred compensation programs, and automatic 3% contribution into the Washington Deferred Compensation Program. The college supports faculty professional development.
