Fouts Center for Visual Arts is accepting applications for Student Sculpture Studio Technicians for Fall 2026, with the possibility of Spring 2026 depending on the availability of hours and performance. Work-Study eligible students will be given priority. Successful student hires will work under the direction of Professor of Art, M Acuff, and the FCVA Studio and Safety Technician, Ben Selby.

Student techs will be tasked with regular duties such as assisting students with projects, monitoring for safety issues, regular testing and maintenance of equipment, maintaining cleanliness and organization of studios, assisting with display space upkeep, and monitoring inventories. Additionally, they will assist the staff and faculty with various special tasks often involving equipment repairs, reorganizing the spaces, updating signage, and assisting with art projects.

Through art studio repair and maintenance, students will gain practical knowledge of hand and power tools, developing both technical proficiency and attention to detail. A working knowledge of basic skills using hand and power tools is desirable, but not necessary. Successful candidates will be highly motivated to learn new making skills. In this position, you will have the opportunity to learn to use much of the wood and metal shop equipment. Much of what you may gain from this position is up to you, how motivated you are, and how willing you are to jump in and get your hands dirty.

Scheduling will be flexible during breaks and vigorous academic periods. Students who are able to prioritize their schedules, including their academic break schedules, will be given priority when scheduling positions and hours. 3 hours are available each week, with the possibility of more during academic breaks.
