Position: Engineering Technician (Civil).

Duties

  • Serve as the Geospatial Technician (Survey) for the Walla Walla District.
  • Perform surveying and mapping services.
  • Utilize Computer‑Aided Design (CAD), Building Information Modeling (BIM), advanced modeling, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
  • Create contract specifications, Architect‑Engineer (A‑E) service contracts, contract drawings, scopes of work, government estimates, negotiate contracts, and conduct field data collection and reduction.
  • Support large, multi‑functional civil works projects during the planning, design, construction, and operation phases.
  • Surveying licensure and/or training is highly desirable and should be mentioned in your resume if attained (e.g., Land Surveyor Intern (LSI), Land Surveyor in Training (LSIT), or related education or training).

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination following a completed background investigation.
  • Must obtain and maintain a valid state driver’s license.
  • Work requires regular field travel involving physical exertion.
  • This position includes regular and recurring exposure to hazards and conditions at construction sites or large hydropower projects.

Qualifications
  • GS‑7 Specialized

    Experience:

    One year of specialized experience that includes learning theories, principles, concepts, standards and/or methods of fundamental surveying of field data collection. Must be well documented in resume.
  • Time in Grade Requirement:
    Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS‑06).
  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must complete a Pre‑Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
  • Proof of U.S. citizenship is required.
  • One‑year probationary period during which the agency evaluates fitness and whether continued employment advances the public interest.
