Nursing Assistant Certified

Shift: Night Shift, Full‑Time – Permanent.

Location:

Walla Walla Veterans Home.

Deliver skilled, compassionate care to our nation's heroes at the Walla Walla Veterans Home. We are now accepting applications for full‑time, Night Shift Nursing Assistants Certified at the Walla Walla Veterans Home.

Supplement Basic Shift Premium: Eligible for $1.00 per hour of supplemental basic shift premium. Expires June 29, 2027.

Note: Expected shifts are 10:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m., with two different day‑off schedules available.

At the Washington State Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA), we are passionate about our mission of “Serving Those Who Served.” Our Veterans Homes at Orting, Port Orchard, Spokane, and Walla Walla provide Medicare and Medicaid nursing home care to Veterans, including spouses, widows, or Gold Star Families.

Description

As a Nursing Assistant Certified, you will assist in the delivery of nursing and nursing‑related care to vulnerable Veterans in need of skilled nursing care in a homelike setting. Your role is vital to maximizing the quality of life for our residents by assisting with daily living activities.

Responsibilities
  • Actively participate in the resident’s care plan.
  • Create and maintain meaningful, professional relationships with residents and their families.
  • Support and encourage the resident’s involvement in decision‑making.
  • Assist with therapies and treatment under the direction of a licensed RN.
  • Assist with bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, eating, and monitoring/feeding of meals and nourishment.
  • Accurately obtain and record vital signs and other resident data; document intake and output records; encourage fluids and collection of specimens for lab use.
  • Perform basic nursing procedures such as applying anti‑embolism stockings or applying creams or lotion to intact skin.
  • Reposition residents and access supplies as needed.
  • Use hoyer lift, oxygen tanks, scoop stretcher, or special equipment as needed.
  • Maintain clean and sanitary spaces in the household including residents’ rooms and common spaces.
  • Lead therapeutic recreational activities.

Requirements
  • Valid Washington state license to practice as a nursing assistant certified.
  • Active status on the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (OBRA) Registry.
  • Must be proficient in the English language and be able to read, write and speak English.
Preferred/Desired
  • Valid driver’s license.
Special Requirements
  • Must pass a DSHS BCCU Background Check prior to beginning services and every two (2) years.
  • Must comply with annual Tuberculin Screening.
  • Requires medical evaluation, fit testing, training and use of respiratory protection as required by Washington Industrial Safety and Act standards.
  • Must lift up to 60 lbs. and be capable of reaching a minimum of 36 in.
  • Must maintain a valid NAC license from the State of Washington Department of Health.
  • Must remain current on the OBRA Registry.
  • Must maintain regular and reliable attendance.
  • Must complete orientation and all mandatory training within mandated time frames.
  • Must sign confidentiality statement.
  • Positions requiring travel must have a valid unrestricted driver’s license and be insured if driving a privately owned vehicle on state business.
  • Candidates must possess work authorization that does not require sponsorship by the employer for a visa now or in the future.
