Civil Rights Compliance Coordinator
PURPOSE STATEMENT
This position provides daily health related care to students under the direction of a licensed health care professional by effective communication to prevent, identify, and/or remediate health problems which may impair learning, social adjustment, or emotional well-being of students.
- Maintain accurate written and computerized health records of all students and provide care for students in the health room.
- Maintain/track student immunization records to support reporting requirements for Washington Department of Health.
- Document all health care provided to students in a timely manner.
- Distribute/implement health protocols as directed by the Health Clinician – RN.
- Monitor health plans to meet the medical, health, and safety needs of students, which includes medication authorization forms and self-carry medication forms required by District Policy.
- Administer prescribed medicines/treatments to students according to Washington State Law and District Board Policy and document as directed by the Health Clinician – RN.
- Provide immediate first aid care in case of injury or sudden illness.
- Provide care for students with special physical needs as needed after receiving training and under the direction of the Health Clinician – RN, including but not limited to catheterization, gastrostomy tube feeding, monitoring diabetes, as well as support school and family in the remediation of head lice.
- Follow District Policy regarding prevention and control of communicable diseases, first aid in acute illness or injury, disaster preparedness, and safety and sanitation in the assigned building.
- Notify Health Clinician – RN in case of an outbreak of disease, and check immune suppressed students’ schedule/class for possible exposure.
- Check for medical conditions and medication prior to field trips. Provide teachers with necessary information. Verify trained staff is assigned to field trips or attend field trips as necessary.
- Manage health room medical supplies.
- Practice Universal Precautions to prevent contact with blood or other potentially infectious materials (OPIM).
- Attend in-services, workshops, and meetings as directed.
- Perform vision and hearing screening as required and in accordance with the Washington State Codes.
- Cultivate and model appropriate and cooperative behavior, including protecting confidential information, consistent with district ethical guidelines.
- May serve on various district committees and/or departmental work teams.
- Perform related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.
- Reports jointly to the assigned Health Clinician – RN, Building Principal and the Director of Health Services.
- Required to deal with a wide range of student, staff and public behaviors and needs in a positive and service oriented manner.
- May occasionally deal with distraught or difficult students or parents.
- May be required to physically transfer students.
Education and Experience
- Current CPR/First Aid and AED certification.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Health care experience and/or CNA/MA strongly recommended
- Experience working with children preferred.
Skills And Abilities
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
- Knowledge/awareness of own cultural identity and how this influences behavior, and desire to learn about the cultural identity of others.
- Ability to establish and nurture an environment that promotes cultural competence and equitable treatment of staff, students, and patrons of the district.
- Excellent human relations, communication, and organizational skills; ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents.
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
- Computerized record keeping skills.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize student needs.
- Ability to maintain state/federal special education compliance requirements including timelines involving special needs or medically fragile students.
- Ability to understand and maintain comprehensive student health care plans.
