The Department of Corrections (DOC) is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the position of Facilities Manager at Washington State Penitentiary (WSP), located in Walla Walla, WA.

The Washington State Penitentiary is staffed 24-hours a day, 7 days a week. The Washington State Penitentiary (WSP) is comprised of 3 Close Custody Units, 3 Special Housing Units, 2 Intensive Management Units, 2 Medium Units, 2 Minimum Housing Units and a Hospital. In all, WSP houses approximately 2,000 offenders and employs approximately 1,000 staff.

Under the direction of the Washington State Penitentiary Superintendent, this position acts as the 3rd level supervisor overseeing Capital improvements, Maintenance, Custodial, and Grounds keeping activities. This position directly supervises two (2) 2nd level managers, one (1) Administrative Assistant 3, one (1) Environmental Specialist 5 and indirect supervision of the facilities Safety Officers 1 and 2. This position is also responsible and oversees and assists with the Environmental concerns, policies and requirements of the facility.

The Sustainability of the facility also falls under this position's responsibility. The 2nd level managers reporting to this position supervises six (6) 1st level supervisors, and an additional 46 maintenance staff involved in the ongoing maintenance of the entire WSP facility which houses 2000+ Incarcerated Individuals, and currently five (5) separate custody levels.

At Washington State Penitentiary (WSP) an adult corrections facility, this position is responsible for maintaining plant operations of 120 buildings on 542.4 acres of property, as well as managing the Engineer Department Staff (51). These 51 staff supervise work crews to maintain WSP living conditions in support of the Department of Corrections (DOC) mission. The Department of Corrections, in collaboration with its criminal justice partners, victims, citizens, and other administration of criminal sanctions and effective correctional programs.

• Provide leadership to, supervise, and direct maintenance staff. Provide and arrange training for staff.
• Schedule and assign routine and project work, analyze latent situations based on sound business decisions. Prioritize work based on security requirements of a correctional facility.
• Prioritize requests for equipment, vehicles, supplies, materials and resources to perform work.
• Establish goals and objectives for the Maintenance Department and staff.
• Interact positively with other department heads regarding current and future projects and facility needs.

• Communicate and meet with other department heads to evaluate costs for facility renovations, new construction and/or improvements. Assign and oversee management of facility contracts (FC). Provide advice and updates to the Local Business Manager and Superintendent regarding maintenance work-unit management including regulatory compliance, budget, labor relations, staff development and training, purchasing, and other incidents or developments.
• Working with the Superintendent, Capital Project Managers, department heads, and Local business Advisor, develop a 10-year capital project plan that reflects the future needs of the facility based on population, regulatory compliance, condition of the facility infrastructure, and the Department's long term strategic plan.
• Direct the programs and resources required to assure the state of readiness and effective utilization of the institution, telecommunications, security and utility systems.
• Utilize computerized maintenance management programs to develop a sustainable preventative maintenance program.
• Read and interpret blueprints and schematics, develop design-drawings and project estimates.
