Public Health Student Assistant
PAY RANGE:$17.13/hour
START DATE:9/20/2026

10/hours week, fall and spring 2026

Provide assistance to the Public Health Steering Committee, including gathering and synthesizing information, developing and disseminating outreach materials, and supporting on-campus events.

Whitman’s Public Health Program seeks to hire a part-time (10 hours/week) student assistant for the 2026-27 academic year. The Public Health Student Assistant will provide as‑needed support to Whitman’s Public Health Program. The student will work closely with the Public Health Steering Committee. These duties may include:

• Completing small research assignments as directed, including gathering and summarizing information and communicating it in written form.
• Designing communication and outreach materials related to public health generally, Whitman’s Public Health Program, and on-campus and community events.
• Build community among public health-interested members of the Whitman community, including supporting events and planning new events
• Support Public Health Professor Jennifer Kue with tasks related to Public Health program development
• Liaison with other Whitman departments/programs, other Whitman offices, and community programs

The research assistant must be able to explain and demonstrate that they possess the knowledge, skills and abilities to safely perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation:

• Ability to work independently, follow instructions, and communicate proactively
• Strong interpersonal skills and written and verbal communication
• Strong attention to detail
• The ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Suite files
• Interest in Public Health
• Available Fall and Spring semesters 2026

• The ability to develop communicative and engaging outreach materials through programs such as Canva

The student in this role will gain knowledge about Public Health as an academic field of study and a professional field of practice. They will gain experience in one or more of the following: research, written communication, outreach, and community engagement.

Must be at least a sophomore student currently enrolled at Whitman College.
