Position SummaryProvides comprehensive, accessible, home‑based and center‑based health services to families enrolled in Akin’s Head Start and ECEAP programs. Promotes the enrolled children’s physical, emotional, and social development and family health practices that enhance lifelong well‑being and prevent illness and injury. Delivers services in a family‑centered manner. Oversees the implementation of health, nutrition and safety plans and services to meet or exceed Head Start and ECEAP Performance Standards, as well as state childcare licensing requirements.
Has access to protected healthcare information (PHI) or confidential identifiable information (CII), both paper and electronic, as necessary to perform related job duties and responsibilities.
- Provides health referrals and facilitates access to health services for families, including primary care, dental services, nutrition, family planning, maternity or childbirth education
- Collaborates with an interdisciplinary team to provide comprehensive services to families and children
- Supports and ensures the completion of health screenings, well‑child exams, dental exams, and follow‑up for all enrolled children and expectant families
- Works with health care providers to complete a classroom health care plan for children with a disclosed diagnosis or chronic condition
- Develops educational materials and participates in education events for families and staff
- Participates in meetings, including Health Services Advisory Committee, team reviews, and other agency meetings where appropriate
- Assists in monitoring compliance with Head Start, ECEAP, or state licensing health and safety standards
- Regularly consults with a Registered Nurse, Nutritionist, and Mental Health Consultant
- Utilizes the Child Plus system to enter or retrieve client information
- Assists with data collection, aggregation, analysis and reporting for overall program
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor
- Ability to establish positive, goal‑oriented relationships with individuals and families
- Knowledge and experience with child health and development
- Experience working with expectant families
- Knowledge of effective communication techniques, conflict resolution skills, and adult education practices
- Knowledge of community health resources and the ability to establish and build collaborative partnerships with community agencies and their staff
- Proficient in Office 365 and database usage
- Attention to detail for data entry software, such as Child Plus
- Familiarity with or interest in the principles of accessibility, inclusion, and belonging; and experience working successfully with colleagues, clients, or communities from a variety of backgrounds.
- Demonstrated openness to learning and contributing to an inclusive workplace environment
- Office environment includes moderate noise and typical office lighting and temperatures
- Home environments may include pets, residual smoke, pests, and other typical household hazards like dirt and other spills (
Note:
we do not allow smoking during visits) - Center environments include multiple classrooms with children ages 4 weeks to 5 years old
Hybrid work is a benefit of Akin’s flexible workplace but cannot be offered for all positions. Some positions require daily presence in the office. Hybrid work arrangements may be adjusted or rescinded based on business needs.
