Correctional Industries (CI) within the Department of Corrections (DOC), is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual to fill a full-time, permanent Warehouse Operator 3 position. This position is located at Washington State Penitentiary (WSP) in Walla Walla, Washington. This position typically works from 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Correctional Industries (CI) within the Reentry Division is committed to maintain and expand Incarcerated work training programs which develop marketable skills, instill and promote positive work ethics, and reduce the tax burden of corrections. This position supports that objective by providing warehousing and delivery services for all WSP CI Operations including Commissary, Food Package Program, Laundry Operations and License Plate Factory.

Duties:

Perform daily tasks associated with Warehouse Operations to include receiving, shipping, storage of raw materials, and finished goods at the WSP CI warehouses and Commissary:

  • Supervises and performs warehousing duties in the Washington State Penitentiary (WSP) CI Warehouse & Commissary under the direction of the CI Business Manager (IS2).
  • Receiving and unpacking of incoming items, checking their condition, type and quantity against the packing slip and providing the receiving report to the WSP CI Business Office for proper documentation to support vendor payment.
  • Manage CI warehouse section holding CI assets, supplies and equipment.
  • May conduct physical inventory.
  • May deliver or pick up goods inside or outside the facility, to various CI shops, or other areas within the institution.
  • Supervises or prepares shipments for deliveries.
  • Loads vehicles and trailers, inspects for condition, accuracy and type, against order/shipping documents to support vendor payments.
  • Effectively manage inventories (including monthly and weekly spot checks), stock rotation and inventory levels. Ensure stock is organized in a manner that facilitates picking orders and conducting monthly inventory.
  • Maintains maintenance records of equipment assigned to warehouse.
  • Maintains an organized and efficient work environment free of hazards.
  • Maintain good safety practices to support Safety Program.
  • Provide excellent customer service, being responsive, accurate, timely and respectful to customers at all times.
  • Gives feedback and assist the IS2 and GM in asset needs, planning and purchases.
  • Develop and/or assist in the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).

Evaluate, supervise and direct the daily workflow of Warehouse Operator 2 employees as assigned:

  • Supervise and evaluate Warehouse Operator 2 (W02) staff by monitoring their work performance and ensure tasks are accomplished in a safe manner.
  • Coach and mentor W02s and provide growth opportunities when available.
  • Provide timely and honest performance feedback, both formally and informally.
  • Meet with direct reports on a monthly basis for a documented one-on-one meeting.
  • Ensure all direct reports complete annual in-service and LMS training.
  • Help employees to succeed by modeling accountability; be fair, reasonable and consistent.
  • In consultation with the General Manager, assign and train staff in a manner that best supports the work to be done.
  • Participates in the recruitment, interview and hiring process for new WO2s.
