DESCRIPTION
Madison District Public Schools is seeking a compassionate, dedicated, and qualified Special Education Teacher to lead a self-contained elementary classroom. The ideal candidate will support students with diverse needs through individualized instruction, behavior support, and collaboration with families and service providers.
QUALIFICATIONS
* Possess a valid Michigan teaching certificate with Special Education endorsement
* Experience working with students with disabilities in a self-contained setting preferred
* Strong classroom management and behavior intervention skills
* Knowledge of IEP development, special education law, and instructional best practices
* Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with students, parents, and staff
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Provide direct instruction to students with mild to severe disabilities in a self-contained classroom setting
* Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with federal, state, and district guidelines
* Create a structured and supportive classroom environment that fosters student independence and learning
* Utilize evidence-based instructional and behavioral strategies
* Collect and analyze data to inform instructional planning and progress monitoring
* Collaborate with general education teachers, paraprofessionals, ancillary staff, and families
* Participate in IEP meetings, staff meetings, and professional development
* Supervise and guide classroom support staff (e.g., paraprofessionals)
* Implement accommodations, modifications, and assistive technology as required
