Description
Lead Substation Physical Engineer – responsible for designing and managing substation physical projects for electric utilities at voltages ranging from 12 kV to 500 kV, utilizing digital logic design, AC/DC circuits, and detailed substation drawings.
Hybrid Schedule(2‑4) days a week in the Walled Lake, MI office.
Responsibilities- Execute substation physical projects.
- Conduct quality control checks on design projects.
- Read and design substation physical drawings such as one‑line, three‑line, plan‑section, foundation, and grounding drawings.
- Create and verify bill of materials for substation physical work.
- Attend site visits at customer locations.
- Ensure compliance with quality control, safety, scope, schedule, and budget requirements.
- Collaborate with a design team of engineers, designers, and CAD technicians, and implement client standards.
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field with eight (8+) years of substation physical design experience.
- Experience with grounding studies, lightning protection, and lighting studies.
- Excellent communication skills with internal teams and clients.
- Ability to meet deadlines under pressure.
- Collaborative team leader and effective independent worker.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- High level of computer competency.
- Willingness to travel to project and/or client sites.
- US Citizenship and ability to pass a DOE Background check.
- Engineer Intern (EI or EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) certification.
- Working knowledge of protection and control design.
- Experience with bus calculation.
- Experience with WinIGS or CDEGS.
- Master’s degree in a related field.
