Position Overview
We are seeking a Manager of Transmission Line Engineer who will manage a collaborative and dynamic team working in a fast‑paced environment, solving challenging problems involved with electric transmission. You will serve as Supervisor and Engineering Lead on high‑voltage electric transmission line design projects of overhead and underground systems for large and regional utilities. You will apply NESC, ASCE, ACI, NEC, and other applicable standards in the engineering and design of all types of capital and maintenance projects from 34.5 kV to 765 kV.
In addition, you will assist the team and independently perform engineering analyses, prepare bidding documents, plans, specifications, and material procurement and construction documents. You will work alongside project planning, environmental, permitting and construction management.
- Lead and manage direct reports, motivate, coach and mentor staff.
- Delegate project work and manage performance of the team.
- Develop and maintain client relationships, proposal development, scope creation and project management.
- Apply AI, automation and digital design platforms to streamline grid modernization and increase design efficiency.
- Convey clear expectations, goals, and vision; resolve conflict and manage collaboration.
- Practice behaviors supporting diversity and inclusion.
- Use business acumen to understand and achieve key project performance metrics and identify potential risks and opportunities.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering.
- 12+ years of relevant experience in the design of high‑voltage electric utility transmission systems.
- Professional Engineering Registration in at least one U.S. state or equivalent.
- Proficiency with PLS-CADD, POLE, TOWER, SAG
10, LPILE and/or FAD, and Microsoft Office suite. - Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently.
- 5+ years of supervising staff.
- M.S. degree in Structural Engineering.
- Track record of outstanding communication as primary point of contact for clients.
- Business acumen and record of meeting key project performance metrics.
- Ability and passion to develop staff through mentoring.
- Work onsite in Leidos or client office possible; periodic travel may be required.
This is a hybrid position with the potential for remote work for candidates located in Pennsylvania or Indiana. Relocation assistance is provided for those able to relocate within a commutable distance to Walled Lake, MI, Cranberry Township, PA, or Indianapolis, IN.
