Lead Substation Physical Engineer – Leidos
Hybrid schedule (2–4 days per week) in the Walled Lake, MI office.
Responsibilities- Execute substation physical projects for electric utilities at voltages ranging from 12kV to 500kV.
- Perform quality control checks on substation physical design projects.
- Read and design substation physical drawings, including one‑line, three‑line, plan‑section, foundation, and grounding drawings.
- Create and check bill of materials for substation physical projects.
- Attend site visits at customer locations.
- Comply with quality control, safety practices, and maintain project scope, schedule, and budget.
- Work with client standards to implement design.
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field.
- Eight (8+) years of related substation physical design experience.
- Experience with grounding studies, lightning protection, and lighting studies.
- Strong analytical skills and proven problem‑solving ability.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with internal team and clients.
- Ability to meet deadlines under pressure.
- Collaborator and leader who works effectively in a team environment.
- Self‑starter who works independently with minimal direction.
- High level of computer competency.
- Willingness to travel to project and/or client sites.
- U.S. citizen with ability to pass a DOE background check.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or willingness to obtain one.
- Experience with protection and control design, bus calculation, and software such as WinIGS or CDEGS.
- Master’s degree in related field (preferred).
