Lead Substation Physical Engineer – Leidos

Hybrid schedule (2–4 days per week) in the Walled Lake, MI office.

• Execute substation physical projects for electric utilities at voltages ranging from 12kV to 500kV.
• Perform quality control checks on substation physical design projects.
• Read and design substation physical drawings, including one‑line, three‑line, plan‑section, foundation, and grounding drawings.
• Create and check bill of materials for substation physical projects.
• Attend site visits at customer locations.
• Comply with quality control, safety practices, and maintain project scope, schedule, and budget.
• Work with client standards to implement design.

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field.
• Eight (8+) years of related substation physical design experience.
• Experience with grounding studies, lightning protection, and lighting studies.
• Strong analytical skills and proven problem‑solving ability.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with internal team and clients.
• Ability to meet deadlines under pressure.
• Collaborator and leader who works effectively in a team environment.
• Self‑starter who works independently with minimal direction.
• High level of computer competency.
• Willingness to travel to project and/or client sites.
• U.S. citizen with ability to pass a DOE background check.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or willingness to obtain one.
• Experience with protection and control design, bus calculation, and software such as WinIGS or CDEGS.
• Master’s degree in related field (preferred).
