About Us:

Welcome to Advance Plumbing & Heating Supply Company, a fourth-generation family owned and operated business, started in 1920. The company's original location was at 2984 Grand River Ave. in Detroit, across from the Motor City Casino. On October 31st, 2016 we moved to our new location at 150 Parsons St. in Midtown Detroit. The new state-of-the-art location features the City of Detroit's first ever Decorative Plumbing Showroom which opened in winter of 2018.

In 1990, with a solid reputation for excellence and an expanding market, Advance opened up a second location in Walled Lake, Michigan which features a state-of-the-art 5,000-square foot decorative plumbing showroom and an outstanding plumbing & heating parts counter.

What You'll Do:

The successful candidate should possess excellent problem-solving, detail-oriented analyzation and time management skills. You'll excel with organizational skills and commitment to accuracy in a fast-paced dynamic environment. Primary responsibilities of the Purchasing Manager is to maintain positive relationships with suppliers, coordinating with internal teams regarding their supply needs, develop purchasing strategies and lead the purchasing team in daily activities.

Some Duties May Include:
  • Handle day-to-day purchasing of material
  • Monitor and maintain reorder settings, purchasing thresholds, and other variances
  • Direct continuous improvement of purchasing processes in line with changing organizational needs and market conditions
  • Implement purchasing policies, procedures and best practices for value optimization while using data and insights to support decision making
  • Identify and source new suppliers and vendors
  • Assist with vendor and supplier selection process based on price, quality, support capacity, and reliability
  • Administer and maintain purchasing agreements and contracts with suppliers in support of organizational requirements
  • Conduct responsibilities for supplier onboarding and supplier outreach
  • Monitor and reduce purchase variances to meet profit objectives
  • Produce regular reports on purchase commitments, costs and delivery performance
Requirements What You Need to Get the Job Done:
  • Analytical mindset able to solve problems effectively and creatively with superb leadership and communication skills
  • Be capable of working in a fast-paced environment, in a customer focused role, while having a high attention to detail and speed
  • Working knowledge of project management, contracts and purchase orders
  • Working knowledge of reorder settings, purchasing processes, and the like
  • Proficient experience with ERP systems and Microsoft Office 365

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in business or related area
  • 3-5 years of previous purchasing experience
