Assistant Civil Detailer
Location:
Wallingford, CT
Contract:
12 month
- Assist in planning and preparing detailed drawings by applying standardized drawing techniques from detailed sketches, verbal instructions and notes under the direction of an engineer.
- Collect initial drawings, calculations and design ideas from engineers, and combine relevant data into coherent and complete initial design models for review and modification.
- Apply company, client, and project drafting standards and procedures to draft control schematics, wiring diagrams and equipment connection diagrams.
- Assist in coordinating with engineers and project managers to understand project requirements and verify design details according to company standards and best practices.
- Assist in providing a range of drawing production work including problem analysis, layout, detailing, and drafting on projects of substantial variety and complexity.
- Assist in drafting activities with designers and drafters in other disciplines.
- Communicate and correspond with internal design resources and external clients and personnel.
- Execute design changes and project drawing revisions.
- Maintain CAD proficiency and work toward mastering current CAD systems.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Complies with all policies and standards.
- Bachelor Degree in drafting technology or related field and min 2 years related experience OR Associate Degree and min 3 years related experience OR High School Diploma/GED and min 4 years progressive detailing and design experience required. (Bachelors degree in Engineering field is not allowed except for Bachelors degree in Engineering Technology). Internship experience doesn't count towards the count of years of experience.

The Experienced Detailer Profile
- Extensive underground design/drafting experience with multiple software platforms (Civil 3D, Micro Station, Revit, etc.).
- Strong background working across different project types and offices.
- Can contribute independently with minimal training.
- Flexible and able to support multiple UGSC team locations.
- 5+ years detailing experience in underground/civil design.
- Advanced proficiency in Civil 3D and working knowledge of additional platforms.
- Proven ability to manage deliverables with minimal oversight.
- Experience collaborating across offices and remote coordination.
- Highly adaptable and resourceful.
- Strong problem-solving and technical troubleshooting skills.
- Comfortable mentoring or providing informal guidance to less experienced staff.
- Confident communicator with clients and internal stakeholders.
- Solid software knowledge (Civil 3D mastery is a must).
- Limited broader engineering/drafting experience but can be trained into a designer role.
- Contributions will initially be tied to the Wallingford office.
- 2–5 years of CAD experience (Civil 3D strongly emphasized).
- Basic understanding of underground/civil engineering workflows.
- Ability to produce quality drawings independently, with room to grow into design responsibilities.
- Comfortable with standard drafting practices, file management, and project documentation.
- Willingness to learn engineering concepts beyond drafting.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Good communication skills with project leads and peers.
- Proactive about seeking feedback and applying it quickly.
- Limited direct experience or software skills, but demonstrates strong drive, communication, or unique qualities that make them stand out.
- Would require heavy upfront training but could be a strong long‑term investment.
- Contributions would be tied to the Wallingford office.
- Familiarity with CAD software preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to learn technical concepts quickly.
- Openness to structured training programs and hands‑on learning.
- High motivation, strong work ethic, and eagerness to grow.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Team‑oriented mindset with willingness to take feedback.
- Displays initiative, curiosity, and resilience when learning new skills.
