R&D Mechanical Engineer

Trillium Professional is now seeking a R&D Mechanical Engineer in Wallingford, CT for a direct-hire placement!

Team / Environment Notes
-Small, highly collaborative 4-person engineering team currently adding 2 additional engineers
-Very hands-on environment with exposure to all aspects of the product development lifecycle
-Opportunity to make an immediate impact within the organization
-Newly expanded 50,000 sq. ft. facility in Wallingford, CT
-5 days onsite preferred, with some flexibility as needed

The R&D Mechanical Engineer will play a key role in transforming customer and market needs into innovative, production-ready hand tools. Working within a global, cross-functional R&D environment, this individual will support mechanical design activities from concept through industrialization.

This is a highly hands-on engineering role focused on mechanism design, prototyping, testing, validation, and production ramp-up within a manufacturing-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities
-Design and develop mechanical hand tools from concept through production
-Translate customer and technical requirements into practical engineering solutions
-Create concepts, feasibility studies, and physical prototypes
-Develop detailed drawings, assemblies, BOMs, and engineering documentation
-Perform engineering analysis including FEA, stress analysis, and tolerance stack-ups
-Plan and execute testing and validation activities
-Analyze test results and implement design improvements
-Support quality investigations and root-cause analysis
-Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, suppliers, and global engineering teams
-Contribute to ongoing product, process, and departmental improvements

-Solid Works preferred, but open to candidates with strong experience in other 3D CAD platforms
-Targeting engineers with ideally 7+ years of experience, but open to strong candidates with 3–5 years of consistent, hands-on product development experience
