NDT Supervisor Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced NDT Supervisor to lead and oversee non-destructive testing operations within a highly regulated aerospace manufacturing environment. This position is responsible for managing inspection personnel, ensuring compliance with customer and industry requirements, maintaining certification programs, and driving continuous improvement initiatives across the NDT function.
The ideal candidate will combine strong technical expertise in ultrasonic and radiographic inspection methods with proven leadership skills and a commitment to quality, safety, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities Leadership & Team Management- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of NDT technicians while fostering a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement.
- Coordinate staffing, schedules, and departmental priorities to support production and quality objectives.
- Conduct employee evaluations, provide technical guidance, and support career development initiatives.
- Ensure all inspection activities are performed in accordance with established procedures and customer requirements.
- Serve as the primary resource for NDT compliance, certification, and accreditation activities.
- Maintain NDT procedures, quality documentation, and personnel certification records.
- Support internal, customer, and third-party audits, ensuring ongoing compliance with applicable aerospace and industry standards.
- Oversee technician qualification and certification activities, including training, examinations, vision requirements, and annual competency reviews.
- Ensure all personnel certifications and training records remain current and properly documented.
- Provide technical leadership for ultrasonic, radiographic, and other approved NDT methods.
- Review inspection techniques, procedures, and work instructions to ensure effectiveness and compliance.
- Support the development and implementation of advanced inspection technologies and methodologies.
- Evaluate opportunities to improve inspection efficiency, defect detection capability, and overall process performance.
- Partner with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality teams to address nonconformances and support corrective action activities.
- Participate in root cause investigations and implement sustainable corrective actions.
- Drive process improvements that enhance inspection effectiveness, throughput, and product quality.
- Monitor departmental performance metrics and identify opportunities for operational improvement.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 5–7 years of NDT experience within the aerospace industry.
- At least 2 years of leadership, supervisory, or lead technician experience.
- Strong working knowledge of aerospace quality requirements, personnel certification standards, and audit processes.
- Hands‑on experience with ultrasonic testing (UT), radiographic testing (RT), or related NDT methods.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and support production schedules in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and a quality‑focused approach to decision making.
- NAS 410 Level II or Level III certification in Ultrasonic Testing (UT) and/or Radiographic Testing (RT).
- Candidates holding Level II certification should demonstrate a clear path toward Level III qualification.
- Experience working with aerospace composite materials and composite manufacturing processes.
- Strong familiarity with personnel qualification programs, certification administration, and audit preparation.
- Experience implementing or supporting advanced NDT technologies such as Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT), Digital Radiography (DR), or related inspection methods.
- Knowledge of aerospace manufacturing processes including layup, curing, bonding, and structural assembly.
- Experience supporting accreditation audits and regulatory compliance initiatives.
