Assistant Civil Detailer – Wallingford, CT (12‑month contract)

Job Description:

• Assist in planning and preparing detailed drawings by applying standardized drawing techniques from detailed sketches, verbal instructions and notes under the direction of an engineer.
• Collect initial drawings, calculations and design ideas from engineers, and combine relevant data into coherent and complete initial design models for review and modification.
• Apply company, client, and project drafting standards and procedures to draft control schematics, wiring diagrams and equipment connection diagrams.
• Assist in coordinating with engineers and project managers to understand project requirements and verify design details according to company standards and best practices.
• Assist in providing a range of drawing production work including problem analysis, layout, detailing, and drafting on projects of substantial variety and complexity.
• Assist in drafting activities with designers and drafters in other disciplines.
• Communicate and correspond with internal design resources and external clients and personnel.
• Execute design changes and project drawing revisions.
• Maintain CAD proficiency and work toward mastering current CAD systems.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Comply with all policies and standards.

• Bachelor's degree in drafting technology or related field and minimum 2 years related experience OR Associate's degree and minimum 3 years related experience OR High School diploma/GED and minimum 4 years progressive detailing and design experience. (Bachelor's degree in Engineering field is not allowed except for Engineering Technology. Internship experience does not count toward the years of experience.)
• Extensive underground design/drafting experience with multiple software platforms (Civil 3D, Micro Station, Revit, etc.).
• Strong background working across different project types and offices.
• Can contribute independently with minimal training.
• Flexible and able to support multiple UGSC team locations.
• 5+ years detailing experience in underground/civil design.
• Advanced proficiency in Civil 3D and working knowledge of additional platforms.
• Proven ability to manage deliverables with minimal oversight.
• Experience collaborating across offices and remote coordination.
• Highly adaptable and resourceful.
• Strong problem‑solving and technical troubleshooting skills.
• Comfortable mentoring or providing informal guidance to less experienced staff.
• Confident communicator with clients and internal stakeholders.
• Legally authorized to work permanently in the United States without sponsorship or time limits.
