Shift: 2PM – Midnight (10‑hr shift), 4 days per week (Monday‑Thursday) with occasional OT on weekdays and weekends.

Pay Range: $20 and up, commensurate with experience.

Must be able to read a tape measure accurately to 1/16th, understand metric measurements and decimal conversions, and have strong math aptitude. Attention to detail and neatness required. Able to work independently on assigned tasks.

Job summary

The Converting Technician1 is responsible for following the schedule and orders submitted in the Converting Department. This is the entry‑level position for Converting Technician. The Technician will pull the specified materials, tooling, and/or equipment required for the specified jobs, prepare and set up the materials for running the specified jobs, set up the designated packaging, and follow all required Orafol process documentation to verify that the conditions/parameters are followed according to the Set‑up Documentation.

Where necessary, unloads and packs Finished Goods. The Technician is responsible for area housekeeping and follows all safety policies and procedures, and recommends changes to enhance equipment performance and improve safety. Must be able to handle the physical aspects of the department, (bending, reaching, etc.) and be able to lift 40lbs.

Essential functions
  • Safe operation of all Orafol manufacturing equipment.
  • Certified to drive and operate Orafol Fork Trucks within the Plant.
  • Be able to read and understand department and inter‑department paperwork such as Converting Orders, Specifications, Work Instructions, and Transfers.
  • Able to read and write in English and utilize Converting and Inventory Files and Programs.
  • The Technician must be adept at working with all required computer entries, Microsoft Office (or similar programs), and ERP system requirements.
  • Able to use a calculator.
  • Demonstrate the ability to properly use rulers, calipers, and micrometers.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with necessary material handling equipment, including Forklifts.
  • Demonstrate the ability to set up and operate sheeting and simple Rewinding equipment.
  • Understand Department safety requirements.
Additional responsibilities
  • Assist Tech2 and Tech3 in the operation of other equipment as assigned.
  • Assist with sample bookmaking.
  • Assist with packaging.
  • Follow prescribed safety policies in accordance with Orafol’s Safety program; use required PPE as specified for each Job Function.
  • All Safety training requirements must be up to date: the company AND each Technician is responsible for the completion of the required Training.
  • Maintains an optimal level of product quality and adheres to Orafol’s Quality Program.
  • The Technician must be capable of training other Employees in tasks/positions that they are certified in. Success will be determined on the trainee demonstrating proficiency in the task/position being trained.
  • The Technician is expected to complete one Position enrichment assignment per year. Assignments should be a collaboration between the Supervisor and Technician.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or as the situation dictates.
Qualifications POSITION requirements

Education Requirements
  • High School Diploma.
  • Mechanical and/or Technical certification preferred.
Work Experience
  • Previous industrial manufacturing experience preferred.

  • Required to maintain a clean and presentable appearance.
  • Technician is expected to be prepared to do their job function, and at their workstation by the beginning of the shift.
  • Technicians are expected to have minimum unplanned absences, as defined by the "Employee Attendance Expectations".
  • The Technician must maintain a clean, neat, and orderly work area, including maintaining all tools and equipment.
  • It is expected that the Technician works well with others; work cooperatively between shifts and departments in order that the overall company benefits.
