Mark Thomas is hiring a Structures Representative. Under the supervision of an assigned Project Manager, or Resident Engineer, the Structures Representative (SR) uses engineering judgment to evaluate construction compliance with plans, specifications, and other appropriate standards, with emphasis on the structural portions of the construction project work. The SR is an authorized representative of the CM Project Manager (or Resident Engineer), and/or the client representative as assigned.
The SR will exercise authority to the level assigned on a project‑by‑project basis. In addition, the SR has full authority, in matters of safety related to imminent hazard or danger.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Understand and properly interpret the pertinent contract documents, information, and references for the structural work of a construction project.
- Exercise sound engineering judgment and determinations regarding the administration of a construction contract and field operations for the structural aspects of a project.
- Administer documentation of a construction contract’s structural work, verifying that contract documentation related to structures including but not limited to contract correspondence, change orders, submittals, and requests for information is generated, distributed, and filed in proper order.
- Monitor and oversee the safety program for field work and operations related to the structural aspects of construction.
- Perform assignments as determined and delegated by the CM Project Manager or Resident Engineer.
- Attend bi‑weekly safety meetings and lead portions of the meeting related to safety issues and topics pertinent to structural construction.
- Resolve or facilitate the resolution of discrepancies, problems with contract documents and pertinent field operations related to structures.
- Take appropriate field measurements and perform calculations for the monthly payment of contract quantities for structural work in an accurate manner.
- Coordinate and/or perform quality testing for structural work on the construction project.
- Write clear, concise, and thorough daily entries for reports, memos, notes, etc.; create and maintain open and productive communications between the CM Project Manager/Resident Engineer, subordinates, subconsultants, Mark Thomas management staff, contractors, and/or clients.
- Promote the Mark Thomas core values, vision, and goals internally and externally.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Meet or exceed competencies equivalent to the Assistant Resident Engineer level.
- Hold a BS degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Engineering.
- Have 5 + years progressively responsible experience in construction inspection, or 7‑10 + years of general construction experience specifically related to structural engineering design and construction.
- Hold California Professional Engineer (PE) license required; or PE in another state with ability to obtain CA licensure within one year.
- Possess a valid driver’s license.
- Willing to travel.
- Proficient in MS PowerPoint and MS Project.
- Competent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated basic understanding of both internal and external project financials and metrics.
- Ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with a variety of unique and diverse people and personalities.
* The offered base rate of compensation (California locations only) will be based on individual education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and geographic location.
