Job Description

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Full-Time Construction Site Monitor, assigned to our Walnut Creek, CA office. Be involved in projects with our Earth & Environment team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our clients’ objectives and solves their challenges. WSP has additional offices throughout California, including in Antioch, San Francisco, Oakland, and San Jose and relevant project sites in Contra Costa County.

Impact
  • Monitor active construction sites to ensure compliance with environmental permits, regulatory requirements, project specifications, and approved work plans.
  • Conduct routine site inspections to verify adherence to environmental protection measures, erosion and sediment controls, stormwater best management practices (BMPs), and site-specific mitigation requirements.
  • Observe field activities and identify potential environmental, health, and safety concerns, escalating issues and recommending corrective actions as needed.
  • Prepare detailed daily field reports documenting site conditions, contractor activities, environmental compliance observations, safety performance, incidents, weather conditions, and project progress.
  • Maintain accurate field records, photographs, inspection logs, tracking spreadsheets, and regulatory documentation in accordance with client and project requirements.
  • Coordinate with project managers, contractors, regulatory agencies, and client representatives to communicate compliance observations and resolve field issues.
  • Monitor implementation of environmental commitments and permit conditions during construction activities.
  • Support site safety initiatives by promoting safe work practices and maintaining awareness of changing site hazards and conditions.
  • Measure, document, and track quantities of installed materials and completed work activities as required by project procedures.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company resources and conduct, while adhering to WSP's Code of Conduct and safety policies.
  • Have current HAZWOPPER or ability to obtain prior to start of field work.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are

Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma.
  • Minimum of 5 years of environmental compliance, construction monitoring, environmental inspection, safety oversight, or related field experience.
  • Valid state driver's license.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting field inspections and monitoring construction activities for compliance with environmental permits, regulations, and project requirements.
  • Working knowledge of environmental regulations, stormwater compliance requirements, erosion and sediment control practices, and construction best management practices.
  • Experience preparing comprehensive daily reports, inspection logs, environmental documentation, and field observations.
  • Ability to identify environmental and safety risks and communicate findings effectively to contractors, clients, and project teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including technical report writing and documentation.
  • Sound self-leadership with strong attention to detail, organization, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic field environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, spreadsheets, mobile field applications, and digital reporting tools.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary project team.
  • Proven commitment to workplace health, safety, and environmental stewardship.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and navigate active construction sites.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's or bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Biology, Geology, Natural Resources, Occupational Safety, or a related field.
  • Environmental compliance monitoring, stormwater inspection, OSHA, HAZWOPER, or related certifications.
  • Experience supporting infrastructure, utility, transportation, remediation, or environmental restoration projects.
  • Familiarity with federal, state, and local environmental regulations and permitting requirements.
  • Experience preparing compliance reports for agency or client review.
