Senior Geologist

Location:

201 N Civic Drive #360, Walnut Creek, CA 94596. Partial telecommuting – 2 days per week. 25% domestic travel.

Annual salary: $123,240 per year.

• Under the direction of the Principal Geologist, demonstrate proficient report and proposal writing and verbal communication skills.
• Conduct fault studies, seismic hazard assessments, seismic source modeling, and catalog development.
• Perform fieldwork including rock, soil sampling, geological mapping, core logging, and site assessments.
• Interpret and present geologic and geotechnical data using specialized software.
• Support drilling operations, laboratory testing, and analysis of samples.
• Maintain accurate records of observations, test results, and site conditions.
• Manage desktop studies, proposal preparation, and assist in business/client development.
• Mentor junior staff and develop positive client relationships.
• Lead proposal presentations and support technical needs of clients.
• Manage multiple small- to mid-size projects per year – budget, schedule, scope of work, and client relations.
• Participate in the design, implementation, and supervision of field exploration and detailed site characterization studies.
• Assist in developing scope, estimating costs, and procuring subcontractors.
• Develop and adhere to project schedules and deadlines.
• Perform research, data analysis, engineering geological analyses, and develop reasonable conclusions and recommendations.
• Develop seismic source models and earthquake catalogs.
• Prepare technical reports in a timely, organized, and accurate manner.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of company processes, including safety and quality.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Master’s degree in Engineering Geology or Geological Engineering.
• Minimum 2 years of field experience in soil and rock logging, geological mapping, site characterization, and paleoseismological trenching for fault investigations.
• Experience interpreting geologic and geotechnical data, integrating downhole geophysical data, and developing geologic models to support engineering decisions.
• Experience preparing technical reports, desktop studies, and managing projects, including nuclear power projects, and performing rock mass characterization.
• Strong ability to synthesize complex geological data to assess site conditions and support multidisciplinary project teams.
• Understanding of geohazards and their implications for project planning and development.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and client‑relationship skills.
• Proficiency with geological software and relevant technical tools.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary environment.
• Familiarity with environmental and safety regulatory compliance.
