Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to lead heavy civil paving and grading projects throughout Northern California. This role will oversee large‑scale roadway and highway construction projects, ensuring successful execution from preconstruction through closeout.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and manage large‑scale paving and grading projects
, with a focus on roadway and highway construction across Northern California - Oversee all phases of project delivery including estimating handoff, budgeting, scheduling, procurement, execution, and closeout
- Develop and maintain project schedules, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies
- Manage project financials including cost controls, forecasting, change orders, and profitability
- Coordinate with owners, subcontractors, engineers, and public agencies (e.g., Caltrans, local municipalities)
- Ensure compliance with contract requirements, safety standards, and environmental regulations
- Lead and mentor project engineers, assistant PMs, and field teams
- Drive quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) programs
- Support business development efforts, including client relationship management and pursuit strategy
- 5+ years of paving and grading experience specifically as a Project Manager on large road/highway projects in Northern California
- Proven experience managing heavy civil infrastructure projects
, preferably with Caltrans or similar public agencies - Strong understanding of grading, asphalt paving, earthwork, and roadway construction methods
- Demonstrated ability to manage project budgets, schedules, and teams effectively
- Proficiency with project management software (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project, HCSS, or similar)
- Strong knowledge of construction contracts, cost control, and change management
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field
- Experience with Caltrans specifications and standards
- Background working for a self-performing heavy civil contractor
- OSHA certifications and strong safety track record
