Project Surveyor
Job Description
The Project Surveyor manages land surveying projects from initial kickoff through final deliverables, ensuring high-quality, accurate, and timely results. This role oversees the full spectrum of survey tasks, including boundary, ALTA/NSPS, topographic, and construction-related surveys, while coordinating closely with field crews, technical staff, and project managers. The Project Surveyor provides technical leadership, maintains project schedules and budgets, and supports a collaborative, learning-focused environment.
Responsibilities
+ Manage survey projects from inception through completion, including planning, execution, and delivery of final survey documents.
+ Review and interpret engineering plans, title documents, and field notes to ensure accurate and complete survey work products.
+ Prepare and oversee the preparation of boundary, ALTA/NSPS, topographic, and construction-related survey documents.
+ Perform and review calculations for construction staking, control networks, and mapping to support design and construction activities.
+ Process, analyze, and perform QA/QC on field survey data to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with applicable standards.
+ Prepare maps, plats, legal descriptions, and exhibits for parcels, easements, and rights-of-way.
+ Coordinate daily with field crews, survey technicians, project managers, and clients to align expectations and maintain project progress.
+ Ensure project schedules, budgets, and quality standards are consistently met across multiple concurrent assignments.
+ Provide mentorship and technical guidance to survey team members to support their development and maintain high technical standards.
+ Manage a portfolio of 4-5 projects at a time, ranging from small construction staking assignments to multi-month mapping projects, while effectively prioritizing tasks and deadlines.
+ Utilize AutoCAD Civil 3D and related tools to support the preparation of survey drawings, maps, and related documentation.
+ Support the preparation of ALTA surveys, topographic maps, construction staking layouts, and record surveys with minimal supervision.
Essential Skills
+ Proven experience managing land surveying projects from start to finish, including ALTA, topographic, construction staking, and record surveys with minimal supervision.
+ Strong proficiency in land surveying principles, including boundary analysis, control networks, and construction staking.
+ Hands-on experience preparing and reviewing boundary, ALTA/NSPS, topographic, and construction-related survey documents.
+ Ability to process, analyze, and perform QA/QC on field survey data to ensure accuracy and reliability.
+ Proficiency with AutoCAD and Civil 3D for preparing survey drawings, maps, and related documentation.
+ Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
+ Clear, professional written and verbal communication skills for effective coordination with internal teams and clients.
+ Demonstrated ability to interpret engineering plans, title documents, and field notes accurately.
+ Capability to provide mentorship and technical guidance to survey staff.
+ A collaborative mindset and a strong commitment to delivering high-quality work.
Additional
Skills & Qualifications
+ Licensed land surveyor or equivalent professional licensure, with the capability to independently manage projects from A to Z.
+ Experience working with GIS platforms such as ESRI is a plus.
+ Experience preparing maps, plats, legal descriptions, and exhibits for parcels, easements, and rights-of-way.
+ Prior experience coordinating with field crews, survey technicians, and project managers on public and private sector projects.
+ Interest in participating in technical training and knowledge-sharing sessions such as lunch-and-learn programs.
Work Environment
The role offers a diverse project portfolio, with the Project Surveyor typically managing 4-5 projects concurrently, ranging from small construction staking tasks to three-month mapping projects. Work is not repetitive and includes exposure to a wide variety of public and private projects. The environment emphasizes strong technical quality, supported by collaborative 'lunch and learn' sessions and an open-door policy that encourages communication and knowledge sharing.

This is a Permanent position based out of Walnut Creek, CA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $135000.00/yr.
