Mid-Level Mechanical Engineer

LEE + RO is seeking a Mechanical Engineer specializing in HVAC and utilities design to join our energetic team. This mid‑level role involves working on water and wastewater infrastructure projects such as potable water, wastewater, recycled water, and stormwater.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with project managers and a multidisciplinary team to design HVAC, plumbing/utility, and fire suppression systems.
• Prepare design deliverables including calculations, technical memoranda, reports, drawings, specifications, cost estimates, and data analyses.
• Support pre‑design tasks and alternative analyses.
• Communicate effectively with team members, clients, sub‑consultants, and vendors.
• Conduct occasional site visits during construction to verify compliance.
• Assist with construction support: submittal reviews, RFIs, correspondence, change requests, and change orders.
• Deliver assignments on time and adhere to the LEE + RO QA/QC process.
• Participate in business development activities.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering.
• EIT certification.
• Experience in HVAC design and construction support, plumbing and utilities design, and/or fire suppression system design.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD, and Blue Beam Revu.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Interest in the water/wastewater industry.
• 3–10 years of relevant experience in designing installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical systems.

Preferred Qualifications

• California PE Certification (Mechanical/Civil). If not licensed, willing to obtain within one year of employment.
• Advanced degree (Master’s or Doctorate) in Mechanical or Civil Engineering.

Salary Range
: $79,040 – $151,840 per year (may vary with location and experience).

Work Location & Schedule

All staff are expected to report to the Walnut Creek office in person at least three days a week (Tuesday–Thursday) and may work remotely two days a week (Monday and Friday).
